More than 4,000 participants: A major sports event is coming to Aalborg

by Emil Kjær Jørgensen

In 2027, Aalborg will host the 9th edition of the CSIT World Sports Games.

The organizers expect more than 4,000 participants from around the world to take part and compete in disciplines such as athletics, basketball, beach volleyball, table tennis, wrestling, dance, football, gymnastics, judo, ju-jitsu, karate, padel, parasport, pétanque, chess, swimming, tennis, and volleyball.

“We are very happy to host the CSIT World Sports Games in 2027. Aalborg grew and flourished during the industrialization of the 1800s. Workers have played an important role in Aalborg’s history and helped shape the city as it is today.

In recent years, Aalborg has successfully hosted major events and has especially benefited from multisport events, where the city can truly come into play,” says Mayor of Aalborg Municipality, Lasse Frimand Jensen, enthusiastically, and continues:

“CSIT World Sports Games is a fantastic event that celebrates tolerance, respect, sustainability, and fair play. It is the perfect event to bring all these elements together with Aalborg’s strengths. We look forward to collaborating with CSIT to organize an exceptional event that will unite people.”

“It is a great pleasure to announce that Aalborg will host the CSIT World Sports Games 2027. I warmly thank Aalborg Municipality for the great attention they have shown CSIT and the confidence they have in us. Aalborg is a city with extensive experience in organizing European and international sports events.

From the beginning, we have benefited from excellent cooperation and a clear commitment from the municipality. This constructive collaboration has allowed us to sign the hosting contract. We are convinced that the 2027 Games in Aalborg will be a wonderful and successful event for all CSIT athletes, families, and participants.

The enthusiasm and professionalism we have already encountered assure us that this will be an unforgettable event,” says CSIT President Bruno Molea.

“It is fantastic that Aalborg has managed to attract such a large and important sports event – they can be proud of that, and we in the Danish Workers’ Sports Federation are proud as well.

We will do our part to ensure that it becomes a huge sports celebration for all Danes from across the country, filled with unforgettable memories – both for the elite and for all of us who value good community spirit,” says the chairman of the Danish Workers’ Sports Federation, Peer Huniche.

Aalborg has previously hosted major events such as The Tall Ships Races in 1999, 2005, 2010, 2015, 2019, and 2022, the UEFA Under Championships 2011, UCI Gran Fondo, and the World Firefighters Games 2024.
