Aalborg Airport has set a new monthly record.

A total of 143,275 passengers traveled to and from the airport in August 2025, the highest number ever recorded for an August.

This was announced by Aalborg Airport in a press release.

With the previous record from 2018 now broken, and with continued growth expected, the airport is investing further in its facilities – including a major expansion of the Aalborg Airport Lounge, where demand has risen significantly in recent years.

The surge in travel means Aalborg Airport will double the capacity of its popular lounge, which has also won several international awards.

Strong appetite for southern sun

The record result for August 2025 is due to both a significant increase in domestic traffic, which has really taken off, and a strong desire for trips to sunny southern destinations.

Danes have been traveling in large numbers to classic holiday spots such as Crete, Rhodes, Alicante, Malaga, and Mallorca, while popular routes to Amsterdam and Copenhagen have also seen double-digit growth.

In total, 143,275 passengers traveled through Aalborg Airport in August 2025, compared to 133,206 in August 2024 – equivalent to an impressive 7.6 percent growth.

Aalborg Airport in growth: Record, full flights, and larger lounge on the way

Aalborg Airport is experiencing positive development on several fronts, both in passenger numbers and cargo operations, which have never been stronger thanks to the new direct Nuuk route.

Flights were also nearly full in August and throughout the summer, showing the high demand for routes.

With more passengers passing through and rising interest in the airport lounge, a major expansion is now underway that will double lounge capacity. The expansion is expected to be completed in spring 2026.

“There are a lot of things happening at Aalborg Airport right now.

We’re setting a new monthly record, charter traffic is performing strongly, and we’ve had the largest cargo volumes in the airport’s history.

At the same time, demand for several direct routes is growing rapidly, particularly those to Malaga, Alicante, and Nice.

There’s significant potential for both more capacity on existing routes and new direct connections worldwide. We’re working hard to make that happen,” says airport director Niels Hemmingsen.

Domestic traffic up more than 13 percent

Denmark’s largest domestic route to and from Copenhagen has been busy, with business travel also picking up again after the summer holidays.

The strong growth in domestic traffic for the second month in a row is also due to more leisure travelers using the route.

“There have been many events and activities over the summer and into late summer, moving people across Denmark.

With good travel options, flexibility, and regular price campaigns from SAS and Norwegian, flying is becoming an attractive choice for many Danes,” says airport director Niels Hemmingsen.
