Traffic changes ahead: Aalborg Carnival to affect roads across the city

As Aalborg once again transforms into a city filled with music, costumes, and celebrations during this year’s carnival, major traffic disruptions and road closures are also expected throughout the city.

Here is an overview of what drivers, residents, and visitors should be aware of.

During the carnival, several roads will be closed to ensure the parade can take place safely and securely. Detour signs will be placed along the route.

This year, Aalborg Carnival has three starting areas for the parade:

• Under Broerne in Nørresundby
• Østerport
• Fjordmarken in Vestbyen

All three parades will meet on Vesterbro before continuing together toward the final celebration in Kildeparken.

Traffic Conditions

The road closures related to Aalborg Carnival may unfortunately cause disruptions for residents and businesses in the area.

The closures are being planned to ensure that access to Aalborg city centre remains possible as much as possible.

It will still be possible to drive to and from Nytorv, including access to the parking garages at Friis, Salling, and Føtex. Traffic will be routed via Østerbro and through the passage near Medborgerhuset.

Parade Route from Nørresundby

The parade starts at 10:00 AM from Mellem Broerne and moves across the Limfjord Bridge.

The following roads will be closed:

• Mellem Broerne
• Havnegade between Vesterbrogade and Østerbrogade
• The square in Nørresundby

The closures will apply between 9:00 AM and 12:30 PM.

Parade Route from Østerport

The Østerport parade starts at 10:30 AM on Nyhavnsgade near Skibsbryggerivej. It is expected to meet the other parades on Vesterbro around 1:00 PM.

The following roads will be closed:

• Between Skibsbryggerivej and Østerbro
• Between Østre Allé, Nyhavnsgade, and Stormgade

These closures will be active from 9:00 AM until 12:30 PM.

Nyhavnsgade between Stormgade and Strandvejen will additionally remain closed from 9:30 AM until 4:00 PM.

Parade Route from Fjordmarken in Vestbyen
The parade from Fjordmarken starts at 11:00 AM and follows Strandvejen before turning onto Badehusvej and then left onto Kastetvej/Borgergade, where it will eventually join the other parades on Vesterbro.

The Vestbyen parade is expected to reach Vesterbro around 2:00 PM.

The following roads will be closed:

• Strandvejen
• Badehusvej
• Borgergade
• Limfjordsbroen
• Nyhavnsgade
• Ved Stranden

These closures will apply from 9:00 AM until 6:00 PM.

Vesterbro will not fully reopen to traffic until around midnight on May 23. However, roads will gradually reopen throughout the day as the carnival participants pass through the different areas.
