Aalborg restaurant expands menu: Breakfast and Danish classics added

Koch’ens Køkken, located on the corner of Holbergsgade and Reberbansgade, is normally known for its all-you-can-eat smørrebrød buffet.

But now there are more options to choose from on the menu.

This comes after the restaurant finally received permission from the municipality and the Danish Veterinary and Food Administration to set up a kitchen in the restaurant.

Previously, the food was prepared in the takeaway shop further down the street and carried on foot up to the restaurant. Now, however, they can prepare dishes directly in the restaurant.

This has opened up new possibilities for the family-run restaurant, which has now added both hot dishes and an entirely new breakfast section to the menu.

“The expansion has always been the plan, but we haven’t had the opportunity to do it before because the kitchen was located in the takeaway shop.

Now that the kitchen has been moved, we have more options and can serve even more Danish classics,” says Charlotte Koch, the restaurant’s day-to-day manager.

Breakfast is now on the menu

One particular addition to the menu has been especially requested by customers.

Breakfast.

At Koch’ens Køkken, they have experienced demand from people in the area who would like to be able to stop by for a smaller breakfast.

Because people don’t necessarily always want the big brunch that can be found at many other places around the city.

“There are a lot of people who simply want to pop in and have a couple of fried eggs,” says Charlotte.

That is why a completely new breakfast section has now been added, with portions that are slightly smaller than a traditional brunch.

Among other things, you can get a buttered bread roll with your choice of toppings, fried eggs with bacon, avocado toast with soft-boiled eggs, fluffy omelette or toasted bread with ham and cheese.

It is also possible to order Koch’ens breakfast platter with scrambled eggs, homemade chicken salad, your choice of toppings and bread or rye bread.

Breakfast is served every day from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Danish classics

But breakfast isn’t the only new addition.

The new menu also features several Danish classics, including stjerneskud with hand-peeled prawns, Grandpa’s tartlets with homemade chicken in asparagus sauce, a fish platter with herring, fish fillet, egg and prawns, as well as two warm meatballs with rye bread and red cabbage.

Still smørrebrød – just fresher

The kitchen means that the restaurant can now prepare much more of the food to order, rather than having everything prepared in advance.

This also means that the well-known buffet has been discontinued.

Previously, the smørrebrød was prepared and put out so that guests could take whatever they wanted directly from the buffet.

Now, however, the food is prepared only when it is ordered.

“To reduce food waste and meet our customers’ needs a little better, we now make it when people order it, so it is completely fresh,” says Charlotte.

Along with the new menu, the restaurant has also extended its opening hours.

Tuesday to Thursday, it is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., while Friday and Saturday it is open from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.

You can find Koch’ens Køkken at Holbergsgade 24.
