Two months after the fire: Aalborg restaurant finally reopens
There has been an unusually quiet atmosphere in the historic cellar beneath Jens Bang’s House in recent months.
Since a fire broke out at Duus Vinkælder in June, the popular Aalborg venue has been forced to keep its doors closed.
But now, the wait is almost over.
“It has been terrible to walk in and look around. But now we can finally get ready to reopen and bring people and life back into the building again – exactly as the place was created for,” owner David Olsen tells MigogAalborg.
Soot caused major problems
The fire started in an extractor hood on a Friday afternoon in mid-June, and the restaurant initially announced that it would remain closed over the weekend.
No employees or guests were injured in the fire, and the actual fire damage was limited to the extractor hood.
Nevertheless, it soon became clear that the fire would have much greater consequences for the popular restaurant.
What was initially expected to be a two-day temporary closure turned into more than two months of closure.
“It has been really frustrating,” the owner says.
The new kitchen is scheduled to be installed on Thursday and Friday, and after that, only the final details will remain before guests can once again make their way down into the distinctive cellar.
“We are incredibly excited to finally reopen,” says David Olsen.
The owner expects to open as early as Sunday for the brunch event that has been on the calendar for a long time – and the official opening day will then be Tuesday, September 1.
He promises that the restaurant will reopen with a range of special offers.
