Reopening with new features: Aalborg Zoo ready for visitors

DSC06585-1200x720-1-1024x614

After three months of winter closure, there is finally good news for all animal lovers in Northern Jutland.

Aalborg Zoo is inviting guests to a reopening celebration throughout Easter.

With many hidden improvements beneath newly asphalted paths, Aalborg Zoo has undergone an extensive drainage and infrastructure project over the past few months – alongside a range of other construction and renovation projects.

But by Easter, Aalborg Zoo is once again ready to welcome both day visitors and annual pass holders to a new season filled with life, baby animals, and experiences for the whole family.

Meet the zoo’s new baby animals

Spring at Aalborg Zoo means lots of new life.

Around the zoo, you might be lucky enough to spot several newborn animals – including a lemur baby, two oryx calves, and a curious Asian small-clawed otter pup.

There is also extra excitement in the Africa area, where zookeepers hope to welcome both a giraffe calf and a zebra foal in the coming months.

And many have surely missed one of the zoo’s biggest charmers:

The orangutan baby Nusa, who will soon turn one year old.

Every day, you can watch the orangutans being fed and hear the zookeepers talk about their work with these fascinating great apes.

The entire zoo has had a makeover

Although the closure was due to a major drainage project, the staff at Aalborg Zoo have certainly not been idle over the past three months.

The zookeepers have, of course, continued caring for the animals as always – while also prioritizing extra time for training and enrichment.

At the same time, the period without visitors has been used to initiate several other projects.

Restaurant Skovbakken has been modernized to become a more integrated part of the zoo experience.

In addition, major changes have taken place in the Tropical House, where zookeepers have worked to create more natural surroundings, making visitors feel as if they are stepping into a tropical environment.

Among the larger projects, you can also look forward to a brand-new biodiversity house, built at the top of the Dinosaur area, where you can learn more about diversity – in nature, animals, and humans.

At the same time, work has begun on a large new lion enclosure in the former elephant area, which is expected to be completed and inaugurated during 2026.

Bring the family for an Easter hunt

Every day during the Easter holidays, you and your family can take part in a large Easter egg hunt, where you use your knowledge of animals to find hidden eggs around the zoo and solve a puzzle to find the correct answer.

You can also meet the zoo’s educators, who share knowledge about the animals and present interesting exhibits.

Activities for younger visitors at the Zoofari Stage

During the opening weekend, Teater Nordkraft will perform the interactive music show “Play as I Say.”

Here you’ll meet the girl Tone, who is inspired by music and tells the story of the blue lobster Teno, while children help shape the performance.

The following week, you can experience the well-known Safari Simon on stage.

With tricks and funny stories, he entertains both children and adults alongside the orangutan Pongo and the parrot Sonny.

In addition, every day you can watch feedings and hear exciting talks from zookeepers at the penguins, otters, baboons, orangutans, and sea lions – and several times a week also lions, tigers, and Philippine crocodiles.

Join the reopening all Easter

You can experience the Easter program from Saturday, March 28 to Monday, April 6, from 10:00 to 18:00.

Whether you want to meet baby animals, watch feedings, join the Easter egg hunt, or simply enjoy a coffee from Starbucks at the Orangery, Aalborg Zoo is ready to welcome you back.

If you want to skip the line at the entrance and save 10 DKK on your ticket,

you can buy your ticket online in advance.

Tickets purchased online are valid for an entire year from the date of purchase, so you don’t need to worry about using them on a specific day.
