An experienced team: New Asian restaurant opens in Aalborg

by Shellie Boudreau

Earlier this year, we announced that the team behind Catch Sushi Bar was opening a restaurant in the city.

That news is now a reality as Xuan Thanh Ngo, Vi Pham, and Zhenbin Lin are opening the doors to Alleys.

Alleys is a new Asian restaurant that served its first customers on Tuesday, June 20th, when it opened.

Delicious and cultured Asian dishes

Unlike the sushi bar, Catch, which focuses on the world of sushi, Alleys is distinguished by popular dishes from Asia.

The restaurant name Alley stems from the exotic and tasty street food dishes or food served over the counter in an alley.

You get that food experience at Alleys.

“We want to bring the hustle, bustle, and busy alley streets from all over Asia into Aalborg.

Many of the dishes we serve are street food classics. However, we have created a more exclusive and exquisite setting to enjoy the flavours,” Xuan says while showing us around the beautifully renovated space in Vesterå.

Top-notch Asian food

As you know, Asia is vast.

Thus, the menu includes exciting dishes from Thailand, Vietnam, Korea, and Japan. You can order Pho, Ramen, Pad Thai, Panang Curry, Kimchi soup, and the unique Alley’s salad with fish sauce – among many other things.

During our visit, we enjoyed the following:

  • Chikin (Korean fried chicken wings coated in sweet & spicy sticky sauce)
  • Chips & Dip (fried rice paper with homemade ponzu mayonnaise & sesame)
  • Cantonese steamed fish (Cantonese steamed fish with ginger, garlic, spring onions and soy)
  • Tan Tan (ramen noodles with a spicy chilli sesame-based chicken broth soup, topped with marinated minced pork, bok choy, enoki mushrooms. Soft boiled egg, sesame, and spring onion)
  • Állêys salad (rice noodle salad with grilled pork and Nem. Served with mint, coriander, home-pickled carrot and Chinese radish, topped with peanuts. There is also a home-made fish sauce on the side)

But there was more to enjoy.

“Matcha Bliss” and “Sake Sunset” are just two of the sampled cocktails. Both were stunning, strong, and signature cocktails.

The food was delicious. Our personal favourite was the delicately prepared fish with the apt name “Cantonese steamed fish”.

We didn’t have time or room in our stomachs to try everything, so we are yearning for our return visit.

Especially since we want to try Alley’s version of “Pad Thai” and “Panang.” If they are as top-notch as the other dishes we tried…then wow. It won’t be long before we stop by again.

Delicious and affordable

Alleys is a perfect intersection of luxury and affordability.

Starting prices for starters cost DKK 65, main courses DKK 120, while desserts can be had for DKK 65.

Alleys will be open Monday – Tuesday from 16:00 – 22:00, Wednesday – Thursday from 12:00 – 22:00, Friday – Saturday from 12:00 – 00:00 and Sunday from 12.00 – 22.00.

The late opening hours cater to small (or large) late-night snacks, but the late hours also mean you can visit and enjoy some stunning cocktails.

Alleys delivers too!

It might be good to know that you can order classic cocktails and Alley’s Signature Cocktails, which include the Matcha Bliss and the Seductive Sake Sunset… and that Gaden is only steps away from the restaurant. How convenient is that?
