New numbers show: Here are the best schools in Aalborg
Public school does not succeed well enough in lifting children of unskilled parents.
This group of students actually performs significantly worse than other students in the public school exams.
In fact, it is only just under three out of four who achieve at least 2 in Danish and math if their parents are unskilled.
This is shown by the results of the public school exams from the school year 2024/2025, which the Ministry of Children and Education has just published.
It is not good enough
Especially after the covid-19 epidemic, there is a clear worsening of the grades for students of unskilled parents.
While 79.5 percent of these students achieved at least 2 in Danish and math in 2018/2019, the number has fallen all the way down to 72.3 percent today.
Here you can also see where the students in 9th grade do best in Aalborg Municipality.
You can see the list further down in this article.
“We cannot accept that so many cannot get minimum 2 in Danish and math.
And it is especially sad that the challenge is so closely tied to which families the students come from.
Some children of unskilled parents are being failed today in school.
The school’s promise of equality, skills and education is not being fulfilled when we talk about the children of the unskilled.
There is a clear social skew.
I am therefore happy that we have set aside a considerable amount to help the 10 percent of students who have the hardest time in Danish and math and granted extra funding for reading and math counselors.
We simply must be able to do better. This is a curve we have to break,” says Minister for Children and Education Mattias Tesfaye in a press release.
Aalborg Municipality does well
When it comes to Aalborg Municipality as a whole, the nationwide challenges with grades are not as bad as in other parts of the country.
In the school year 2024/2025, it is Gistrup Skole that takes first place with a fine grade average of 8.8. Nicely followed by Gl. Hasseris Skole, Klarup Skole and Vester Hassing Skole.
This is measured on the total average in compulsory exams in 9th grade.
