Beware: Thieves targeting gas cylinders in Aalborg

It is currently the high season for grilling in gardens and on balconies throughout Aalborg.

However, grilled sausages, delicious steaks, and cozy summer gatherings are being disrupted by an unfortunate trend.

There are gas cylinder thieves active in Aalborg and the surrounding areas.

MyAalborg has received several reports from residents in areas such as Hasseris and Nørresundby, all of whom have had gas cylinders stolen, which were intended for grill gatherings or to heat patio heaters during chilly Danish summer evenings.

“North Jutland Police can confirm that we are currently experiencing multiple thefts of this nature in Hasseris, Nørresundby, and the Hobro area.

It is, of course, a great inconvenience for residents who fall victim to these thefts.

We are aware of these incidents and are actively investigating the available leads.

In some of the current cases, we have promising leads that we are pursuing; however, due to the ongoing investigation, we cannot disclose further details,” Deputy Police Inspector Frank Olsen says in a written statement to MyAalborg.

Public advisory

Despite the ongoing investigations, North Jutland Police advise those affected by these thefts.

“Generally, we encourage citizens to report these thefts to us so that we can follow up on relevant leads, investigate patterns, and movements in this type of crime, and hopefully solve the cases, bringing the perpetrators to justice,” Frank Olsen explains.

“We also strongly urge residents to secure their belongings, including gas cylinders.

Please store them behind a closed and locked door, such as in a shed, when you are finished grilling.

Warmer weather prompts more people to bring out their grills – and thus their gas cylinders. So remember to lock them away after use to reduce the risk of falling victim to these very troublesome thefts.”
