Big names on the door: New café has opened in Aalborg

by Shellie Boudreau

Aalborg’s food scene changes every day. Indeed, it’s one of the reasons we exist – to keep you in the know.

And as one café door closes and another opens. The main point is that there is always something new to try and a place to go.

Now we can share some good news: As you guessed, a new café has opened in a part of Aaborg’s newly developed area.

At Stjernepladsen, located in the Eastern part of Aalborg (Østre Havn), “Leben” has opened. Edwin Adkins and Maria Hartmann are behind the new launch.

Maria, amongst other places, has worked in several top-tier restaurants such as Aamans, Umani, and Michelin restaurants in London and Tokyo – and worked with the master chef for Mortens Lunch at Mortens Kro here in Aalborg.

With that impressive CV, we can expect great food and a dining experience.

An opening reception recently took place where guests could see the newly renovated interior and eye-catching flowers.

Indeed there is a great atmosphere, and the setting is less formal than typical Michelin, but this is because the focus for Leben is serving on the plate.

Some menu examples

Without any doubt, you can get a delicious selection of smørrebrød. The price for one piece/serving is DKK 53, and 4 pieces for DKK 197.

And here are your choices: Chicken salad, Beef, Pork, Egg, Herring, Pork shank, and “I don’t eat meat”.

On the menu, you will also find exciting salads and the category “Schnell Schnell”, which is fast food at a sharp price of DKK 87.

Here you can, e.g. choose between Chicken, Japanese curry, soup or home cooking with braised pork jowls.

If you’re feeling ‘snackish’, you should check out the range in the snack menu.

Starting with cheese croquettes and fish cakes there’s also fries, cake of the day, and dessert. There will definitely be something to satisfy your mood. All items are carefully selected according to the founding team of “Leben” like and enjoy.

There are fish fillets, sandwiches, and crispy chicken for kids or picky eaters.

Beverage-wise, you can choose from a selection of wines, coffee, and fresh juice.

Leben opens at 10:00 on weekdays and 10:30 on Saturdays.

A part of the community

Stjernepladsen, as they call it, is like a little town within a town.

Here you can find a coffee house, ice cream store, cheese boutique, gourmet restaurant – and now also Leben.

Edwin Adkins and Maria Hartmann dream of further building up the small community at Østre Havn. They hope to meet and greet regular visitors and locals in the neighbourhood and be an extension of the home.

The new premises are also great if you need quiet space to work and fresh coffee to solve the day’s tasks on your computer.

Carefully selected drinks are ready to serve, and the display case is full of delicious goodies you can buy to take home daily.

In time, Leben will also hold some exciting events and hold private dining on the premises – so you should pay attention to this new café.
