Big news announced: New roads and bicycle bridges are coming to Aalborg

Aalborg can look forward to major traffic improvements in the coming years.

The government has just announced how DKK 540 million from the Land and City Fund under Infrastructure Plan 2035 will be allocated.

A total of DKK 151 million will go to projects in Aalborg.

This means new bicycle bridges, improved traffic flow, and safer intersections in Aalborg East.

Jan Nymark Thaysen (V), alderman for the Department of Urban and Landscape Affairs, calls it a significant gain for the city.

“Aalborg is being prioritized with new intersections and road improvements that will enhance traffic safety and flow, especially in Aalborg East,” he explained Friday morning.

He added:

“It’s fantastic that Aalborg Municipality is being prioritized in this way.
But it also reminds us that when Aalborg is to develop, the money and initiative must come from outside — because our own coffers are unfortunately empty.”

Three major projects in Aalborg

Of the 17 projects receiving funding nationwide, three are located in Aalborg:

Hadsund Landevej / Universitetsboulevarden – DKK 30.6 million

A central junction near Aalborg Harbor and the new super hospital will be rebuilt to improve traffic flow.
The project also includes two new bicycle bridges over Tranholmvej and Egensevej to strengthen safety and accessibility for cyclists.
Expected completion: 2027.

Traffic lights at junction 24 Øster Uttrup Vej – DKK 95.1 million

One of Aalborg’s busiest areas will receive a major upgrade.
Changes will be made to intersections, lanes, and exit ramps to ease congestion, especially during rush hour around Tech College. The project is expected to be completed within four years.

Thisted Landevej – DKK 26.7 million

The road will be upgraded to a 2+1 road to improve safety and traffic flow north of Aalborg.

The DKK 3.5 billion fund is part of Infrastructure Plan 2035, which annually supports projects aimed at better connecting Denmark.
