Big plans in Vesterå: Two restaurants are opening – and one is closing

Now you have to keep your tongue firmly in your mouth.

Because we can now reveal wild gastronomic plans in Vesterå, which include a restaurant closure, a restaurant relocation — and two entirely new openings.

Let’s start with the relocation.

Earlier this year, Restaurant Tabu went bankrupt, and since then the large premises have stood empty.

Until now.

It is a very popular restaurant moving into the prestigious premises.

Catch Sushi Bar — located just across the street — has been a “victim” of its own success, and the popular concept is crying out for more space.

This problem is now solved by moving about 50 meters — and reopening Catch Sushi Bar in the premises that previously housed both Tabu and Tapa5.

“The premises are both larger and more atmospheric, and there’s even a beautiful courtyard where we can offer outdoor seating,” co-owner Vi Pham tells MigogAalborg.

In the new surroundings, there will be room for 120 guests inside — and 30 guests in the cozy courtyard.

If all goes according to plan, Catch will move into the new premises around October 1.

But they’re far from finished.

Alleys closes — and a new concept moves in

Further down Vesterå, we find Alleys, which for two years has served exotic and flavorful street food dishes.

July 14 will be the restaurant’s last day of operation.

“Over time, it became clear that Alleys — although popular — did not have the right facilities for the broad and complex menu we ran.

The kitchen layout and space put natural limits on us, making it difficult to deliver the quality and flow we wanted.

Instead of compromising, we chose to rethink the concept and create something more focused — without losing the flavor, energy, and creativity that people loved about Alleys,” says Vi Pham.

So while we say goodbye to Alleys, we also say hello to a brand new restaurant in the atmospheric premises.

Aalborg gets a new ramen restaurant

Welcome MAMII — the newest addition to the restaurant trio.

MAMII will be a ramen restaurant, where you can order the delicious soup (naturally made from scratch) and combine it with side orders like dumplings, cucumber salad, and other tasty snacks.

The concept is created by the owners in close collaboration with Alleys’ current manager, Ye, who will also manage the new restaurant’s operations.

“It will be a more casual dining experience in the affordable price range, where you order at the counter — and we will only serve lemonade and beer with the food,” says Vi Pham.

The focus will be on a relaxed atmosphere and lots of flavor — LOTS of flavor.

“The name MAMII is a combination of umami and mother. It should feel familiar, but the taste buds should also get a kick. That’s why the restaurant’s subtitle will be: ‘Ramen & Dumplings that slaps.’”

Already on July 18, they will be ready to welcome guests to Aalborg’s new ramen restaurant.

You might think they’re saying goodbye to them — with so many new things going on.

But then you don’t know the restaurant trio very well.

“We’re keeping the location because we want to test a completely new concept for the people of Aalborg. It’s going to be really big,” says Vi Pham without revealing more.
