Building fun: A new LEGO experience opens in Aalborg

This weekend, the Utzon Center is expanding its popular LEGO universe, giving architecture fans of all ages more space to play and build.

The concept is called THE LEGO CITY, and here, you can find an available building plot in the city – allowing you to contribute your own creation to the great fantasy city.

“THE LEGO CITY is a constantly changing city; built from LEGO bricks, play, and imagination. Here, we develop everyday architectural wonders together, from houses and supermarkets to public squares.

Visitors of all ages can take their curiosity on an adventure and draw inspiration from the fun and beautiful buildings that others have created – and become architects for a day themselves,”* says Matilde Marling Kiib, Play and Learning Manager at the Utzon Center.

Thousands of LEGO Bricks

THE LEGO CITY is built from thousands of LEGO bricks, but imagination is also a key part of the building projects:

“An architect plans and designs buildings, cities, parks, and gardens. Architects build small architectural models to test and experiment with their ideas before settling on a final design.

It takes a solid amount of imagination to give form to what doesn’t yet exist, and an architectural model can change its appearance and shape many times along the way. In THE LEGO CITY, everyone can try being an architect and design their own building,”* she adds.

The buildings in THE LEGO CITY are built to a scale of 1:200. This means that the LEGO architecture models are 200 times smaller than they would be in real life.
