Burger giant expands to Denmark: Could Aalborg be next?
The American burger chain Five Guys is preparing to open its first restaurants in Denmark, and the question now is whether Aalborg could become the next stop.
The chain has just announced that its first Danish location will open in the Field’s shopping center in Copenhagen in about a month, while another restaurant is set to open later this summer at Fisketorvet.
But the expansion is far from stopping there.
Five Guys describes the openings as the beginning of a much larger Danish and Scandinavian expansion, with plans for additional restaurants across Denmark.
And Aalborg seems like an obvious candidate.
Aalborg has become increasingly attractive for burger concepts
As Denmark’s third-largest city, Aalborg has in recent years attracted a number of major international food and fast-food chains, and especially the areas around Nytorv, Friis Shoppingcenter and Aalborg Storcenter have become increasingly attractive for new restaurant concepts.
At the same time, Aalborg is known for its strong café and burger crowd.
Something that is also highlighted by Five Guys itself in connection with the brand’s arrival in Denmark.
“Denmark is a market we have been curious about for a long time.
There is a strong burger culture and an audience that values quality and experiences, and we believe our concept fits very well with Danish customers.
For us, it is not only about opening restaurants, but about building something long-term in Scandinavia,” says Ethan Jabbar, Head of Establishment and Operations for Five Guys in Scandinavia.

Five Guys opening soon in Denmark
He does not want to comment specifically on other cities, but says that they are looking at the biggest Danish cities where it makes sense for Five Guys to establish itself.
The American burger chain is especially known for its burgers made from fresh ingredients, large portions of fries and a simple menu universe focused on quality.
Globally, Five Guys has nearly 2,000 restaurants worldwide, and for years the chain has been among the most requested international burger chains among Danish burger fans.
If Five Guys seriously wants to establish itself in Denmark, Odense, Aarhus and Aalborg seem like very likely next steps — just as we have seen with chains such as Pincho Nation.
