Ready for Christmas Market: Here’s where you can get a giant hot dog

Christmas in Aalborg tastes again this year of mulled wine, pine – and a half-meter-long hot dog.
When the Christmas lights are turned on at Gammeltorv on Friday, the big Christmas market opens once again with everything the heart (and stomach) could desire.
There are many big news items at the market this year, but among the returnees is the legendary giant hot dog from Grill Hytten – one of the most photographed meals during Aalborg’s Christmas season.
Here you can take on a half-meter sausage, special-made bread, and the whole package, grilled over an open fire.
According to rumors, the record still stands from 2021 at 5 minutes and 42 seconds – including a liter of Mathilde chocolate milk.
But maybe this year it’s you who will break that record?
New flavors at the square
There are also plenty of new things to look forward to. According to City Manager Jes Asmussen, there will be both more stalls and completely new food experiences.
“We are getting, among other things, a new Christmas cart, where some young locals have built a food truck out of a caravan. They sell roast pork burgers and duck burgers – so the square will really smell like Christmas,” he says.
In addition, the market will get a touch of Southern Europe with an Italian fudge cart, more Italian delicacies, and Spanish specialties from Casa Jada, which also sells colorful Spanish ceramics.
Café and Christmas Spirit at its Best
After high demand, the Christmas café is back with æbleskiver, mulled wine, and glühwein – and space to enjoy the warmth under cover.
Last year, over 210,000 visitors came to the Christmas market, and Aalborg’s mayor Lasse Frimand Jensen is looking forward to it, expecting it to once again be a gathering place for all of Aalborg.
“Here, people from all over the municipality come together to enjoy the atmosphere, the lights, and the sense of community,” he says.
The Christmas market at Gammeltorv will be open from Friday, November 14, all the way until December 23. So there’s still time to grab a bite of the giant hot dog – or one of the other tasty treats at the Christmas market.
Here is the list of stalls:
The Coffee Hut
Here, they offer delicious hot drinks like cappuccino, caffe latte, americano, espresso, hot chocolate, chai latte, and green matcha. Visitors can also buy handmade organic cream puffs and fun waffle sticks (waffles on a stick with various toppings).
