When the Christmas lights are switched on at Gammeltorv on Friday, November 14, it will mark the start of six weeks of festive Christmas cheer in the heart of Aalborg.

The Christmas market – the city’s largest annual event – will this year feature more stalls and a few delicious new food additions, says City Manager Jes Asmussen to MigogAalborg.

“We have some new huts this year that we haven’t had before.

There will also be a food truck – or rather, a Christmas wagon – selling roast pork burgers and duck burgers.
It’s run by some young locals who have turned a camping trailer into a food truck.
We’re really looking forward to the smell of roast pork at the Christmas market,” says Jes Asmussen.

Spanish and Italian delicacies

Among this year’s other new highlights are both Italian and Spanish touches of Christmas.

“There’s also a large fudge stall from Italy, which this year will add another hut selling Italian delicacies.
In addition, Casa Jada is joining us, offering Spanish delicacies and ceramics,” he says.

After strong demand, the popular Christmas café will also make a comeback.

Café with æbleskiver returns

“The café wasn’t there last year, but many people asked for it.
It’s a cozy spot where you can buy æbleskiver, mulled wine, and glühwein, and sit either under the canopy or out on the veranda,” says Asmussen.

Last year, the Christmas market attracted over 210,000 visitors, making it Aalborg’s largest annual event.

“It’s a great boost for shops and restaurants in the city, and many people have made it a tradition to meet there.

Aalborg has become a great Christmas destination, and the market has really put us on the map,” says Asmussen.

Mayor looks forward to Christmas in Aalborg

Aalborg’s mayor, Lasse Frimand Jensen, also has high expectations for this year’s Christmas market in the city center.

“Christmas is the season of hearts and togetherness – and you can feel that everywhere in Aalborg Municipality, from Nibe to Vejgaard and all the local Christmas events, which I try to visit as many of as possible each year.

The Christmas market at Gammeltorv is something truly special because it brings the whole community together.
Here, people from all parts of Aalborg meet to enjoy the atmosphere, the lights, and the sense of community.

At home, we have a tradition where my wife, our three children, and I visit the market when the Christmas holiday begins – it’s one of those moments when the Christmas spirit really starts,” says the mayor.

This year’s Aalborg Christmas Market runs from November 14 to December 23 at Gammeltorv and Nytorv.
