Classic danish food with a twist: New restaurant opens in the city center

Soon you’ll be able to enjoy a classic Danish lunch with herring, meatballs, and snaps—right in the heart of Aalborg.
Since the beginning of December, the Friis family has been working tirelessly in the historic building on C. W. Obels Plads to open a new restaurant serving classic Danish cuisine to the people of Aalborg.
Ninna and Danny Friis are married, and Louise is Ninna’s sister. Together, they will open Restaurant Brix on March 3.
The concept is simple and delicious: classic Danish food with a modern twist for both lunch and dinner.
“We want to create an intimate and cozy restaurant where our guests feel welcome and comfortable,” says Ninna Friis.
For lunch, guests can enjoy a classic Danish buffet or choose à la carte dishes like smørrebrød, chicken salad, or schnitzel.
In the evening, the restaurant offers a fixed four-course menu including drinks.
The menu starts with a classic stjerneskud (shooting star) featuring breaded and fried fish, shrimp, tomato, and greens, inspired by smørrebrød icon Ida Davidsen.
Next is a “Kylling Danoise” with cucumber, rhubarb, and parsley, described as a tribute to the classic Danish Saturday chicken with a crisp finish.
Then comes braised crispy pork belly with cabbage, currants, and glazed potato.
For dessert, guests get “old-fashioned apple cake as grandma never made it” with apple, vanilla, and white chocolate.
Each dish is accompanied by a piece of Danish history with a touch of humor.
A historic building
The family is inspired by the old building, which, according to their research, is Aalborg’s second-oldest building.

Although the floors and furniture aren’t as old, they have needed some care, and both plumbers and electricians are hard at work while MigogAalborg talks to the owners.
“We reuse what we can, but replace a lot of things that need it,” explains Ninna Friis.
This includes floors, the kitchen, and other installations, all getting a major overhaul.
Extensive industry experience
All three owners have extensive experience in the restaurant industry.
Ninna ran a wine and spirits shop for over 10 years, and she and Danny have also managed Hadsund Færgekro.
Both are trained in hospitality, and Danny is also a sommelier.
Louise Friis is a trained chef and has worked at places like Geranium and Munkebjerg Hotel.
“We look forward to filling the restaurant with happy guests. I think that’s the highlight for everyone in our industry,” says Ninna Friis.
