Concerts, festivals, and events: Your summer guide to Aalborg

by Vera Dvorakova

In July, the usually vibrant city of Aalborg turns into a ghost town, as its residents take off for their vacations, family visits and trips to summer houses.

The cultural life of the city calms down so much in July that many of us who are staying here can easily get bored out of our minds.

Luckily for you, this year’s July is shaping up to be a pretty exciting month for different concerts, festivals and other cultural experiences, both paid and completely free!

And to make it easy for you to keep track of them, we prepared this guide to surviving July in Aalborg.

JUST DANCE Jomfru Ane Parken Series

The JUST DANCE studio located on Jomfru Ane Gade is bringing its love for dance outside to share with likeminded people.

The studio’s instructors will be by the Jomfru Ane Parken on the harborfront, offering free dance lessons in afrobeats, salsa, bachata, and kizomba.

Everyone can join at any point, no partners or previous experience needed – all you need is to start dancing.

The studio is also multicultural and open to all nationalities, so all of its instructors speak English, making it so much easier to follow their instructions.

When: Saturday, 16th of July, 15:00 – 21:00
Where: Jomfru Ane Parken by Havnebassinet

If you want to know more, there is also a FB event you can check out.

Kunsten Summer Lounge

July in Aalborg wouldn’t be complete without Kunsten Summer Lounge.

The programme this year is rich, so you can look forward to several hours filled with live music, various talks, workshops and a lot more.

The Summer Lounge happens every Wednesday and offers the comfort of lounge chairs, interesting food options and a bar to quench that summer thirst.

When: Every Wednesday, 16:00 – 20:30
Where: Kunsten’s Sculpture Park (Kong Christians Allé 50)

You can attend the event as long as you buy a ticket to the Kunsten Museum. The event is free of charge for members of the Kunsten + Utzon Club.

Costa del Nordkraft

Do you love spending warm summer evenings on a sandy beach? And how about watching movies at an outdoor cinema?

Well, there is an opportunity to do both at Biffen’s Costa del Nordkraft.

Every Thursday from 21:30, you can bury your feet in the soft sand of an indoor beach and watch a movie while sipping on a cold drink.

This year, all movies are in English so you can enjoy it even if Danish isn’t your strong suit. Oh, and it’s completely free!

When: Every Thursday at 21:30
Where: Kedelhallen in Nordkraft (Kjellerups Torv 1)

You can check out the programme here.

Grøn Koncert

This one is a bit of a Danish tradition.

Grøn Koncert is organized by Tuborg and dates back all the way to 1983.

Ever since then, the extra money made by the concert has been dedicated to Muskelsvindfonden (the Muscular Dystrophy Fund) and is to this day helping people with a handicap.

After a break caused by COVID-19, the concert is back and it is also coming to Aalborg on the 24th July!

You can definitely use it as your introduction to the Danish music scene: from the Danish rap sensation Tessa to the ‘horrorcore’ hip hop band Suspekt, the lineup is something to be remembered.

When: 24th July, 13:00 – 21:30
Where: Trekanten (Hvorup Kirkevej 17)
Entrance fee: 350 kroner

You can check out the lineup and buy your tickets here.

Supernova Jazz Blast

You might have noticed that Aalborg is quickly becoming a city of jazz.

And now you can have a taste of that during Supernova Jazz Blast. It will take place over four days at four different venues and it will feature exciting names, both international and local.

Find the program here or follow the festival on their FB event or Instagram.

Entrance fee: 35 kr per concert, so that you can customize your jazz experience

When: 27th July, 17:00 – 30th July, 23:59
Where: Langes Kunsthåndværk, Jazzcentret, Huset i Hasserisgade, and El Mundo Aalborg
