Cool guide: Where to find Aalborg’s best ice cream shops

by Stine Kjølby Christensen

We are reaching the end of summer and that means the end of ice cream season as well.

If you want to get your last fill of the sweet dessert before the weather changes, we got you covered. At MyAalborg, we have made it our mission to taste all of what Aalborg can offer in the ice cream department.

So who makes the best ice cream in the city and who is not afraid to think outside of the usual soft serve box?

Guf & Kugler

It was a cause for celebration when the well-known ice cream shop Guf & Kugler decided to open a branch in the center of Aalborg.

Beforehand, locals had to pilgrimage to Nibe in order to taste the delicious flavors and standing in line was more the rule than the exception.

Having previously been crowned the best ice cream shop in Denmark, it is no wonder they are so popular.

On top of their high quality selection, they are without a doubt the most innovative as well and often “invent” their own treats. Take for instance their White Russian ice cream with Kahlua and vodka that is guaranteed to make you tipsy.

Paradis

There is no list without Paradis Is.

The ice cream shop makes all their ice cream fresh in the morning and delivers it to their four branches in Aalborg.

Their latest branch can be found by the harbor, which without a doubt is the best placement for any ice cream shop during the summer. Paradis is known for their high quality as well as coming up with alternative flavors based on pastries and candy.

To list a few examples, they have come up with Hindbærsnitte ice cream (a traditional Danish pastry made from raspberry), Skildpadde ice cream (a Danish chocolate shaped like a turtle, which consists of dark chocolate and caramel filling), and Romkugle ice cream (another traditional Danish pastry made from leftover cakes and rum).

This time it is Pandekagehuset that have taken it upon themselves to make the crispy waffle and delicious ice cream combo.

In addition to the waffle, the dessert includes two scoops of ice cream of your choosing (with 16 flavors to choose from), soft serve, sprinkles (9 different kinds), guf (a kind of sugary foam), whipped cream and sauce (5 different kinds).

The waffle can be ordered to go or to stay, If you order it to go, it is served in a small cardboard container shaped like a cornet.

Café Salt

Vestre Fjordpark is truly the place to be when the heat rolls around. Here you can go for a cooling swim or visit Café Salt and enjoy one of their tasty ice creams.

They are known for their mega-waffles and their classical, old-fashioned ice cream, which is a level above everyone else. If you are up for a challenge, Café Salt can boast of having the largest ice cream in Aalborg.

Is á Bella

In 2019, the parlor chain Is á Bella opened in Magasin, offering high-quality Italian ice cream.

Aside from Aalborg, the parlor chain is located in Torvehallerne in Copenhagen, on Frederiksberg, and in Skive.

Is á Bella produces and sells Italian ice cream in cooperation with a company from Northern Italy that has been around for nearly 100 years.

Their products are made from ingredients of the highest quality: The ice cream is made from milk from Thise (an organic Danish dairy company) and organic sugar while the rest of the ingredients are imported from their Italian partners.
