After enormous interest: Læsø dining concept moves in permanently in Aalborg

by Michael Qureshi

It began as four exclusive pop-up dinners in December.

But after strong interest and quickly filled long tables, Sola Sociale is now becoming a permanent feature at Pier 5 Hotel in Aalborg.

The concept originates from the critically acclaimed Læsø restaurant Sola and moved temporarily from Vesterø to Aalborg in December for four evenings of long-table dinners.

Already early on, it became clear that interest extended beyond the planned dates, and new dinners have therefore been put on sale throughout January.

In January, Sola Sociale will set the table at Pier 5 over four weeks.

The dinners take place Thursday, Friday, and Saturday in weeks 2, 3, 4, and 5, with all evenings starting at 6:30 pm.

Long tables and social dining

Sola Sociale is run by Læsø-born Kamilla Kristensen, who has created a social dining concept centered on community and seasonal ingredients.

The format features long tables, shared servings, and an informal approach to gastronomy, where the experience emerges through the interaction between food, space, and guests.

At the first dinners in December, the atmosphere was clear from the start.

The lighting was dimmed, the long tables were set with candles, and the music set the pace for the evening before the first course reached the table.

The menu took its starting point in Læsø and the maritime kitchen, with a focus on shellfish and seasonal ingredients – including snow crab, langoustine, and scallops – served in simple expressions with great attention to detail.

A well-executed experience

Even the servings between courses became part of the experience.

Bread and butter were presented in a way that naturally sparked conversations at the tables, and several dishes were served on warm plates that kept the food hot throughout.

Dessert rounded off the dinner with a reinterpretation of ris à la mande, preserving the flavor while playing with the presentation.

With the dinner, guests can opt to add a wine and cocktail menu, which continues to be developed in collaboration with VAERFT Cocktailbar, ensuring that the drinks match the direction of the menu.

With the extension in January, Sola Sociale thus moves from a pop-up format to a recurring offering on Aalborg’s waterfront – and Pier 5 continues its approach of using the hotel as a setting for special gastronomic collaborations.

The new long-table dinners with Sola Sociale run throughout January and can be booked here.
