Even bigger and more splendid: Fireworks at Tall Ships Races will break Danish record

This summer, Aalborg is hosting the big international sailing event Tall Ships Races for the sixth time and as always the event will end with a huge fireworks show.

Last time Aalborg acted as host was in 2019 and the fireworks show then was the largest display ever shown in Denmark. However, the organizers have now revealed that they plan for the 2022 fireworks to be even bigger –  thus breaking the Danish record yet again.

Aalborg Municipality broke the news in a press release this morning.

The fireworks show will take place on the last day of the event: August 6, 2022.

This is possible due to the business man Eigild Christensen who also sponsored the fireworks in 2019.

“It was fantastic to be able to invite people from Aalborg, North Jutland, and visitors from the rest of Denmark and abroad to an unforgettable experience in 2019 where the fireworks looked incredibly beautiful with the impressive sailing ships in the background,” Eigild Christensen says.

“It was not a hard decision to make when the opportunity to repeat the success presented itself. Of course, we are going to have a world-class fireworks show in 2022, and it is not going to stand in the shadow of fireworks from earlier years.”

Expects 700,000 guests

Mayor Thomas Kastrup-Larsen is excited at the prospect of another splendid view on Aalborg’s skyline:

“The fireworks in 2019 was a huge experience for me. I think it is the same for everyone who witnessed it.

I am grateful that Eigild Christensen yet again makes sure that we can have a fireworks show, which again moves the boundaries of what is possible and leaves tracks in the audience’s summer memories from Aalborg,” Thomas Kastrup-Larsen explains.

It’s once again Højen & Magic Fyrværkeri ApS that are responsible for organizing and firing the fireworks.

The organizers expects to draw in 700,000 guests in the days from August 4 – 7 when the event takes place.

The main attraction is the many sailing ships that participate in the race. The organizers expect 50 ships to participate. Aside from Aalborg, Esbjerg, Harlingen, and Antwerp will act as host-cities. Tall Ships Races have taken place since 1956 with the purpose of spreading knowledge about sailing to young people.
