The wildest view: Experience Aalborg’s skyline from a new bridge

The view – a devoted Aalborg resident might say.

And now another project has been completed in the Stigsborg district that supports exactly that point.

As part of Fjordpladsen, a brand-new wooden bridge has now been opened.

Here, you can step out over the water and look directly toward Aalborg.

Get closer to the Limfjord

The entire city skyline lies open on the horizon, with Musikkens Hus, Aalborg Tower, and Budolfi Church as clear landmarks.

The bridge functions as a viewing and leisure bridge and is therefore not designed as a bathing jetty.

The water is shallow and the fjord bottom muddy, which means swimming is not part of the project.

Instead, the bridge offers the opportunity to get very close to the Limfjord.

Here it is possible to launch a kayak, canoe, or SUP, and the bridge is designed with seating edges and areas for staying right down at the water’s surface.

The construction provides access to the fjord without altering the natural conditions of the area.

Part of a new district

The viewing bridge is part of Fjordpladsen, which has been established as a new cohesive area along the water. Wooden decks, pathways, and recreational zones have been created to tie the area together.

Part of the development consists of green basins designed to collect and delay rainwater before it is released into the fjord.

The placement of the viewing bridge is connected to future infrastructure in the area.

The bridge is located right next to the planned cycling and pedestrian bridge project, BROEN, which is intended to connect Stigsborg with the area near Musikkens Hus on the opposite side of the Limfjord.

The project involves an approximately 650-meter-long pathway bridge which—if realized—will become Denmark’s longest cycling and pedestrian bridge.

There are still ongoing studies of the project, and the ambition is to have a decision-making basis ready by mid-2026.

If BROEN becomes a reality, Fjordpladsen and the viewing bridge will function as the landing point on the Stigsborg side.

Until then, the viewing bridge stands as a new, permanent spot along the fjord – with a view towards Aalborg.
