Experienced team behind: New bar is opening at the corner of Jomfru Ane Gade

The establishments on Jomfru Ane Gade have been closing down one after another.

In 2024 alone, Mexi Bar, Zurf Bar, Fabrikken, and Rex have shut their doors.

However, the street has a tendency to attract hopeful entrepreneurs eager to test new concepts.

Thus, it is no surprise that a brand-new bar will be opening in August at Jomfru Ane Gade 27, the former location of Mexi Bar.

The new bar, Walters Bar, is being launched by a seasoned team with many years of experience in the hospitality industry.

Many years experience in the business

The owners, Lars Juel, Carsten Juhl, Martin Sloth, and Mathias Walther, bring a wealth of experience to the venture.

Lars Juel and Carsten Juhl have been working closely together for 25 years at places like Tiger and Cafe Saltlageret on Gaden – names that will ring a bell for regulars of Gaden in the 2000s and 2010s.

They are also known as partners and co-founders of the Zwei Grosse chain and currently operate Helmuth and Kuhstall Bier Bar in Holstebro.

Mathias Walther, co-owner of Helmuth and owner of Graffiti Cocktails, is also part of the project.

The fourth member, Martin Sloth, is known from Pakhuset in Aalborg and several establishments in Løkken and Skagen. He is also a DJ and singer.

With such an experienced team, the prospects for Gaden’s newest bar look promising.

Aiming for a broader audience

On Facebook, the owners describe their vision for Walters Bar as creating an authentic classic bar gem with a positive and relaxed atmosphere, offering a level of service that surpasses what is typically found on Jomfru Ane Gade, providing guests with a pleasant and cozy experience.

By situating the bar at the corner of Ved Stranden and Jomfru Ane Gade, they hope to attract a broader audience, including those who usually avoid the bustling party scene of Gaden.

The aim is to appeal to a more mature crowd with good music and a wide selection of beers and spirits.

“The music at Walters Bar will be a priority, carefully curated by our veteran DJ and singer, and presented in a new way in Aalborg.

Expect a great mix of hits from the 80s to today.

The bar will offer a good and wide selection of premium beers, spirits, and wines – served in glasses tailored to each beverage,” the owners elaborate on Facebook.

Although Walters Bar will not be a discount bar, there will be attractive prices for events like Friday bar and pre-dinner drinks.

Renovations in Full Swing

MyAalborg visited the premises at Jomfru Ane Gade 27 and observed that renovations are well underway.

Walters Bar is expected to open in mid to late August, with operating hours from Wednesday to Saturday, and extended hours during the summer season.
