Ramasjang and MGP: Free family fun at Tall Ships Races

One of the biggest events of the year in Aalborg is fast approaching.
When The Tall Ships Races arrives from 30 July to 2 August, the city’s waterfront will be transformed with spectacular tall ships, live music, and a wide range of experiences for the whole family.
And if you’re bringing children along, there’s even more reason to stop by.
On the Nørresundby side of the harbour, the North Jutland Foundation Children’s Area will be the centre of four days of free entertainment, games, and activities, where children can sing, dance, build, play, and meet some of their favourite characters.
Ramasjang star, MGP performers and spectacular drum show
Every day, visitors can enjoy three free stage performances.
Popular family entertainer Michael Back will open and close the programme on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, while each day will also feature a special headline act.
On Thursday, Kalle and Anna Spejlæg take to the stage with a lively musical performance featuring drumming, rap, funny sound effects, and plenty of audience participation.
On Friday, MGP 2025 favourites Aida and Niklas will bring their infectious energy, songs, and stage presence to the festival.
Saturday belongs to Ramasjang favourite Oda Omvendt, who invites children and adults alike to help build a quirky musical machine using loop stations, dance, singalongs, and imaginative sound effects in a highly interactive performance.
Jump, play and earn your own driving licence
Between the stage shows, there will be plenty to explore in Bumleby, a dedicated children’s area packed with activities for all ages.
Children can:
- Climb into Police Officer Bamse’s police car and Miss Flora’s ambulance.
- Respond to emergencies from Benny the Firefighter’s fire station and race down the giant slide.
- Test their skills at a junior police academy obstacle course.
- Take on the popular Sweeper challenge.
- Ride around the cycling course and earn a bicycle licence.
- Drive electric mini cars and receive their own electric driving licence.
Throughout the day, Benny the Firefighter, Miss Flora, and Police Officer Bamse will also make appearances so children can meet their favourite characters in person.
Featured shows at The Tall Ships Races
“Oda Omvendt Breaks the Rules”
Who decides what music should sound like? In this interactive and humorous performance featuring Ramasjang’s Oda Omvendt, children join Oda on a playful mission to convert the Rule Rider—a man convinced that music should only be played by the book.
Using loop machines, sound devices, and plenty of unusual noises, children and adults work together to build their own musical machine. The show is packed with singalongs, dancing, creativity, and concludes with a joyful musical finale.
“Kalle’s Big Drum Show featuring Anna Spejlæg”
Kalle is well known from the DR Ramasjang series Kalle’s Denmark Tour, while Anna Spejlæg is both a singer in her own show and a rapper with HipSomHap.
Kalle is an energetic drummer who can make music out of almost anything. While playing drums, angle grinders, rubber pigs, balloons, and countless other objects, he sings, raps, jokes, and keeps the audience laughing.
Anna joins him with her warm personality, impressive vocals, and rap performances, encouraging the audience to sing along, guess funny sounds, and move to the music.
Aida and Niklas
Aida won the hearts of audiences across Denmark when she reached the MGP 2025 Super Final with her song Just Say It (Sig det bare).
Since then, she has performed throughout the country, impressing audiences with her powerful voice, stage presence, and infectious enthusiasm.
Niklas uses music to express his personality and emotions. He competed in MGP 2025 with the song Me and My Guitar (Mig og min guitar), sharing a more personal side of himself through his music.
Pirates, books and creative workshops
There will be plenty to experience at Aalborg Libraries, which will be bringing their mobile library and a host of pirate-themed activities to the festival.
Children can borrow books about pirates and sailors, take part in competitions, make their own pirate hats, get anchor-themed temporary tattoos, and test their aim in a fishing challenge.
The pirate theme continues at Springeren, where children can create pirate bandanas, receive pirate tattoos, join creative workshops, and even sample mealworms and a child-friendly version of “pirate rum.”
