Faster and easier commutes: Aalborg is getting a new super bike path
On Friday, September 27, Aalborg will celebrate the inauguration of its first super bike path, running from Nytorv to the new Aalborg University Hospital.
The 7.5 km route is designed to improve conditions for bike commuters and make cycling an even more attractive transport option within the city.
With wider bike lanes, better surfaces, and facilities like bike pumps and service stations, the goal is to create a safer and more comfortable cycling experience.
Grand celebration
The route stretches from Aalborg’s city center through Aalborg East, connecting some of the city’s largest employers and educational institutions, including Aalborg University, NOVI, and UCN.
The final part of the route follows the Plusbus path, linking the university to Aalborg University Hospital.
This is one of the most used bike routes in the city, and the super bike path is set to make commuting by bike even easier, regardless of the weather or season.
The inauguration will be celebrated with activities from 7:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at four locations in Aalborg East, where cyclists can enjoy a free breakfast and get bike check-ups.
Mayor Lasse Frimand Jensen and Alderman Jan Nymark Rose Thaysen will personally cycle part of the route from 7:45 a.m. to 8:15 a.m.
Reducing commute times
For those unable to attend in the morning, additional festivities will take place at Nytorv from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., featuring free beer, soda, sausages, and various competitions.
Alderman Jan Nymark Rose Thaysen will give a speech at 2:00 p.m., highlighting how the super bike path is a key part of Aalborg Municipality’s ambition to promote health and sustainable transport in the city.
The goal of the super bike paths is to make cycling faster and more convenient for both short and long trips. They are designed with direct routes, minimal stops, and high comfort, encouraging more people to choose cycling over driving.
The super bike path to the university hospital is expected to shorten commute times and increase cycling among students and employees in the area.
