For a good cause: Leave your bra at the harbor

by Megan McPhee Christensen

Saturday, October 9, is Lyserød Lørdag (Pink Saturday) – a recurring event under the national campaign Støt Brysterne (Support the Breasts), which will be held for the 14th time this year.

Since 2008, volunteers and local businesses have come together each autumn to put on their pink work shirts and make Pink Saturday a massive national fundraising party.

Through the years there have been running events, dancing, brunches, auctions, dog walks, and much more.

In the name of a good cause, and thanks to great community engagement, Pink Saturday has raised over 41 million kroner for the fight against breast cancer.

Leave your bra behind for a good cause

One of the returning features here in Aalborg takes place on the harborfront, where you can hang – more or less – used bras up on the fence in support of the cause.

The opening of the so-called “bra fence” on the harbor takes place this Saturday, September 25, where everyone and anyone can come by with their bras.

Program for Saturday, September 25:

  • 13.00-13.30: Opening by councilor Mai-Britt Iversen and regional councilor Ulla Astman.
  • Everyone can hang up their bras after the opening speeches.
  • 13.00-16.30: Buy a ticket and get hoisted up in AVAS’ 45-meter high lift and enjoy the waterfront from above. The money collected goes directly to supporting the fight against breast cancer.
