Freshly made sushi, cocktails, and cozy settings: Catch Sushi Bar is off to a flying start

by Nathalia Hentze Nielsen

It’s almost an understatement to call Caspars in Algade one of the city’s most popular takeaway restaurants.

Whether you drop by for lunch, dinner, or something in between, owner Xuan Thanh Ngo and Co. will be busy conjuring up fresh and delicious dishes with an Asian twist. Especially their poke- and noodle bowls have been a huge success.

On Saturday, October 3, Caspars got a new sister restaurant when Xuan and his girlfriend Vi Pham along with the owner of the successful Nori Bar in Aarhus, Zhen Bin, opened Catch Sushi Bar on Vesterå 14.

Cozy decor and a smart ordering system

The concept is straightforward and simple: From the time you arrive, you have a table for two hours and in that time, you can easily and conveniently order whatever you desire on a tablet at the table.

There are pictures of all the dishes on the screen so if you are not 100% sure about what Hosomaki & Futomaki is you get an idea of what you’re ordering before deciding.

Once you press “order”, your selection goes directly to the kitchen’s trained sushi chefs who immediately start preparing the food.

If (when) you’re ready for more, just grab the tablet again and send off a new order. No embarrassing hands in the air when you have to wave down the waiter for the 39th time to get another plate of tempura prawns.

Something to look forward to

On the menu, you will find delicious starters like seaweed salad, Tom Yum soup, Gyoza and tempura shrimp, and tempting skewers with everything from chicken to salmon, lamb, spicy wings, and MUCH more.

For the extra hungry customer, you can choose everything from rice rolls to the special crunch rolls, and then of course there’s the sushi.

The sushi comes in all shapes and sizes and is made completely from scratch. Here you can choose between nigiri, hosomaki, futomaki, uramaki, and kaburimaki.

If you have been to Caspars before then you have with almost 100% certainty fallen head over heels for their many glorious homemade sauces like the sesame paste, the wasabi cream, or the peanut sauce.

They are also (thankfully!) available in the sister restaurant where you can go nuts and add as many flavors as you like to your order.

For dessert, there is a selection of classics on offer such as crème brûlée, chocolate mousse, and panna cotta.

The price is just 199 kr for an All You Can Eat lunch with exactly the same menu as in the evening (11:30 – 15:00), while for dinner, you can eat for 229 kr from Sunday to Thursday and for 249 kr Friday to Saturday (15:00 – 22:00).

Children under 12 years old eat for half price.

Delicious cocktails – and open all the way to 2AM

Catch is not just a place to fill your belly with delicious Asian specialties. You see, there’s a reason why they call it Catch Sushi “Bar”.

The bar has a very central location and is a major focal point of the venue. Catch has even hired a professional bartender who is responsible for conjuring up one delicious cocktails after the other.

Here the choice is (also) difficult – with temptations from Gin Hass to White Russian, Dark & Stormy to Whiskey Sour, and Mojito to Long Island Iced Tea.

“When the corona situation is under control, the plan is that we will stay open until 02:00 in the morning. We hope that our guests will want to enjoy a delicious cocktail, a good glass of wine or cocktail pitchers before they might move onwards to Jomfru Ane Gade later in the night,” Xuan says.

So far, Catch Sushi Bar, like all other restaurants and bars, has been forced to close at 22:00… but as a small consolation we can reveal that there is now Happy Hour with 2-for-1 drinks between 20:00 – 22:00.

You will find Catch Sushi Bar on Vesterå 14.
