15 wind turbines and 80 hectares of solar panels: A major energy park is coming to Aalborg

NRGi has just received approval to establish a new energy park in the Tuekær area of Aalborg Municipality.

They announced this in a press release.

The upcoming facility will be a multi-billion-kroner investment and is expected to produce 275,000 MWh of green electricity per year, equivalent to the annual electricity consumption of 66,000 households.

The new energy park will consist of 15 wind turbines and around 80 hectares of solar panels.

Together, the energy park will have a capacity of 67.5 MW from the wind turbines and 91 MWp from the solar panels, and it is expected to produce approximately 275,000 MWh of electricity annually, corresponding to the yearly consumption of about 66,000 households.

At NRGi Renewables, the company behind the project, there is great anticipation for the realization of the energy park and the impact it will have on the transition to renewable energy sources.

That is what CEO Jakob Bundgaard explains.

“We are of course pleased that the energy park has now moved one step closer to being realized. Society is in the middle of an extensive and necessary electrification, and this requires that we increase the production of green energy and accelerate the expansion of cost-effective, land-based renewable energy facilities,” says Jakob Bundgaard, adding:

“There has been broad local support for the project, and that has been crucial for getting us this far. And with the approval in place, we can now turn our attention to the next steps and continue working towards delivering a facility that helps make a difference in the green transition.”

The announcement of a new energy park comes at a time when the expansion of onshore renewable energy has nearly come to a halt.

According to Green Power Denmark, only 12 new onshore wind turbines were installed in Denmark in 2024, and in 2023 only one was installed.

Battery and radar technology will be part of the energy park


The future energy park will not only consist of wind turbines and solar panels.

As part of the project’s ongoing development, NRGi Renewables is also working on adding a battery system that will store surplus electricity and ensure a more flexible and stable use of the energy.

“There is no doubt that batteries as an integrated part of renewable energy facilities will play a major role in the future energy system.

A battery system will make it possible to store more of the electricity produced when it is windy and sunny. In this way, we can send green energy to the grid when demand is highest. This increases the utilization of the energy and makes the entire facility more flexible and robust,” says Jakob Bundgaard.

In addition, an agreement has been made with the Danish Armed Forces on a mitigation measure at Aalborg Air Base.

The solution includes a new radar that will ensure the wind turbines do not affect the operational activities of the air base. The radar will be the first of its kind in Denmark, and NRGi Renewables will be responsible for both procurement and operation.

According to NRGi Renewables, the energy park could be operational around the turn of 2027/28.
