Giant sandbox, summer cinema, and music: Aalborg City presents their summer program

by Ashton Christensen

Summer in Aalborg. It doesn’t get much better than this.

But the events this year might surpass previous years.

Aalborg City is ready with an ambitious summer program named “Summer in The City 2023.”

We have already revealed this year’s major endeavour: free summer cinema at C.W. Obels Plads, featuring films for adults and children.

But there is much more.

The entire month of July is scheduled with exciting activities in the city center. In addition to the summer cinema, there will be street football, table football, petanque courts, giant chess, a giant sandbox, and music in the city.

Summer cinema

Aalborg City invites you, for a total of five times in July, to a summer cinema at C.W. Obels Plads in collaboration with Nordisk Film Biografer Aalborg Kennedy.

“We will be showing three films for adults and two for children (and the young at heart),” they explain.

Nordisk Film Biografer will, of course, be ready with treats for the movie at great prices, so you can enjoy cold drinks and delicious cinema popcorn while watching the exciting films under the open sky.

Summer cinema program:

Wednesday, July 5th at 20:00: Green Book. More info here.

Saturday, July 8th at 09:30 (Children’s cinema): Folk og Røvere i Kardemommeby. More info here.

Wednesday, July 12th at 20:00: Ternet Ninja 2. More info here.

Saturday, July 15th at 09:30 (Children’s cinema): Far til Fire i Solen. More info here.

Wednesday, July 19th at 20:00: Coda. More info here.

Giant sandbox

A giant sandbox will be set up at C.W. Obels Plads together with the Summer cinema.

Outside of cinema showings, the sandbox will be open to everyone, allowing children to enjoy it throughout the summer.

The entire area will be transformed into a summer paradise, with all the fixings like lounge chairs.

Street football & table tennis

At Nytorv, from Wednesday, July 5th to Saturday, July 29th, you can play street football and table tennis. Balls can be borrowed for FREE from Boxen and Walther.

Petanque courts

At Gabels Torv, from Wednesday, July 5th to Sunday, July 30th, you can play petanque on two petanque courts. Petanque balls can be borrowed for FREE from Espresso House in Friis Shopping Center.

The banners and gravel have been brought over from the DM week, so they have the right dimensions and surface for playing.

“We’re going to decorate around the field with beach chairs and grass, so there is space for spectators,” Aalborg City says.

Giant chess

Every Tuesday in July (July 4th, July 11th, July 18th, and July 25th), we will be visited by Aalborg Chess Association at Bredegade Torv from 10:00 to 14:00.

They will set up a 4×4 meter chessboard and provide six regular boards, so feel free to stop by for a chess game.

Music

In July, there will also be music playing at various spots around the city.
