Heat treat and freaky flicks: Danish Championships in sauna therapy returns

Due to corona, the sauna aufguss Championships were cancelled two years in a row. However, the championship is back in May.

All of Denmark’s best sauna meisters gather in Nørresundby Idrætscenter / Svømmeland to decide who swings the towel best in the three categories: Classic aufguss, Showgus and Team Showgus.

“It will be super exciting with great competitions, as showgus is a special experience. All buttons will be pressed as the casters not only heat up the sauna but also tell a story”, says the event manager at Nørresundby Idrætscenter Klaus Jaqué.

Spectacular experience

Contrary to normal sauna aufguss, where it’s mostly about dry heat, the gus for the Danish Championships are exclusive spectacular experiences.

“Usually it’s about ‘grilling’ those who are thrilled to be grilled, but at the championships, the technical details are important too, some great throws, whips and towel snaps, done according to the current sauna etiquette,” Klaus says with a smile.

“Our show may not be a quiet affair, but we hope to leave guests and judges with an invigorated smile on their face,” he mysteriously continues about the gift he and fellow live host Oliver are about to give.

The Danish champions in sauna aufguss will be crowned during the Great Day of Prayer holiday on May 13th and 14th. Guest tickets to the event cost 1500- for a whole weekend, including the afterparty, and can be booked now through the Danish Sauna Company.
