Important for international breeding program: Hoping for new baby tigers in Aalborg Zoo

They are still separated.

But at Aalborg Zoo, they hope soon to be able to let the new female tiger, Mawar, join the male, Pasai.

Mawar is an important part of the European breeding program for tigers.

The female tiger came to Aalborg from Germany’s Heidelberg Zoo a couple of weeks ago, and still needs time to get used to the new surroundings after spending her first two years in the German zoo.

“We’ve been waiting for her for a long time. We’ve received videos from Heidelberg Zoo of her training, the enclosure she came from, daily routines, medical history, etc., and we’re working hard to help her settle in well,” Aalborg Zoo writes in a post on Facebook.

The head zoologist at Aalborg Zoo, Sofie Warncke Nutzhorn, is also optimistic. Right now, the two tigers are sizing each other up in the outdoor enclosures.

“The two are becoming really good friends. So with a little time, it will surely work out,” she says in a video.
