Screams guaranteed: Aalborg Horror Night returns

Aalborg-Horror-Night2-llimage-sc956x536

Do you dare make your way through dark corridors without knowing what – or who – is waiting around the corner?

Then you will soon be able to put your courage to the test in Aalborg.

This October, the Defence and Garrison Museum will be transformed into a genuine chamber of horrors when Aalborg Kultur Fabrik once again invites guests to Horror Night.

The lights will be switched off, while sudden noises, smoke, surprises and live actors will make sure guests stay on high alert throughout the experience.

And don’t expect to simply hide at the back of the group.

The people behind the event will not reveal exactly what awaits inside.

However, Flemming Krøll, who is responsible for media at Aalborg Kultur Fabrik, knows one thing for certain.

“I would wet myself if I had to go through it. So I’m definitely not going in there,” he says with a laugh.

An adult man ran away

Horror Night is far from a new phenomenon in Aalborg.

Over the past 15 to 20 years, the organisers have created various horror experiences at several locations around the city, and according to Flemming, the event has only grown over time.

Last year, around 2,000 people went through the experience.

Some were more frightened than others.

“Last year, we had an adult man who got so scared that he ran away and jumped over a barbed-wire fence,” Flemming says.

Others take the experience much more calmly.

“We’ve also had young girls come out laughing. People react very differently. But one thing is the same for everyone: They all come out with their hearts racing.”

That is also one of the reasons why Horror Night is recommended for people aged 16 and over.

“We would rather not have people leave traumatised. If someone aged 11 or 12 shows up, they won’t be allowed in,” he says.

The actors do not necessarily keep their distance either.

“You may be grabbed, pushed and held. Of course, we try to make everything as safe as possible,” Flemming says.

The Defence and Garrison Museum also plays an important role in the experience.

Among other things, the museum’s existing bunkers will be used.

“It’s already a slightly creepy place. We turn off the lights, and then you have no idea where you are. It can get completely dark out there, so it’s a perfect place for it,” he says.

This year, the team has also come up with something new.

“Our guests will also become part of the experience themselves as actors. There’s a little surprise involved, but I don’t want to reveal exactly what it is,” Flemming says.

Smaller groups will make it even scarier

This year, fewer guests will be allowed in at a time.

While groups previously consisted of ten people, they will now be reduced to six to make the experience more intense.

At the same time, it takes a lot of people to transform the museum into a living horror universe.

Around 150 actors are involved in Horror Night, while almost 20 people work on developing and building the experience itself.

And preparations begin long before the first guests are allowed into the darkness.

“We already start evaluating and coming up with new ideas when the previous year’s Horror Night is over. The actual construction began around three weeks ago, and right now we’re spending pretty much all our free time getting everything set up,” Flemming says.

Ticket sales are already underway, and there is a limited number of tickets available for each evening.

Horror Night takes place at the Defence and Garrison Museum in Aalborg on 2, 3, 9, 10, 16 and 17 October.

The journey through the darkness lasts between 30 and 45 minutes, and tickets cost DKK 189. Horror Night is recommended for people aged 16 and over.
