Hospital relocation begins: Longer waits expected for surgery

In February, the long-awaited relocation of patients to the new Super Hospital in Aalborg East will begin.
But this will have consequences for other patients, DR.dk wrote on Monday morning.
It will mean longer waiting times for patients who are on the waiting list for a planned operation.
“This is the largest relocation in the history of Region North Jutland, so it is clear that it will have some consequences,” says Hospital Director Lars Dahl Pedersen to DR.
The move means, among other things, that some technical equipment will temporarily be taken out of operation.
This reduces capacity in the operating theatres for a period and especially affects patients waiting for planned procedures.
To lessen the impact, the region is trying to redistribute tasks.
Patients will increasingly be offered surgery at the region’s other hospitals in Thisted, Farsø, and Hjørring, which will expand their operating hours in the coming period.
Be aware if you are due for surgery
The relocation is happening in stages, and the region will continuously provide information about the process as departments change name and address.
In this connection, patients are encouraged to pay extra attention to where they are supposed to show up for their appointments.
The meeting place appears in the appointment letter, but can also be seen in the app “MineAftaler Region Nordjylland”.
Staff will move in 2026
The majority of the hospital’s employees will move to the Hospital City during 2026.
However, there will still be activity at Hobrovej at Aalborg University Hospital South for a number of years.
The new Aalborg University Hospital in Hospitalsbyen is the largest construction project in North Jutland to date.
The hospital covers approximately 180,000 square metres, including a service building of 20,000 square metres.
