Increased interest in self-defense: Participate in the Women’s Martial Arts Day in Aalborg

by Ashton Christensen

Over the last month, there has been a lot of focus on women’s safety – especially during “after hours.”

As a result, the demand for learning how to protect yourself has increased considerably, which coincides nicely with the fact that DGI Kampidræt and Aalborg Self Defense & Jujitsu Club invites people to join their open house on their premises at Skydebanevej on March 13.

Here you can try out the club’s numerous martial arts before (possibly?) deciding what suits you and your needs best.

Whether you’re into working up a sweat, mindful training, or curious about martial arts, you should pass by – and maybe bring a friend, sister, mother or daughter.

“There has been a focus on self-defense for women following the Mia case where a young girl was recently and tragically picked up by a strange car and brutally murdered.

The case is luckily atypical and rare, but there’s an increased focus on safety as girls seek extra reassurance that they can speak up and defend themselves as well as emit confidence when they walk on the street,” Dorthe Dehn Jørgensen explains.

She continues:

“Violence against women differs from violence against men, which is very physical.

It can also be physical against women, but it is often harassment or psychological violence where boundaries need to be set – even in everyday life.

At Aalborg Self-defense and Ju-jitsu club, we also have, aside from the regular classes, workshops for women only. Everyone is welcome regardless of age and experience.

Our open house for Women’s Martial Art Day is an excellent opportunity to unleash your potential.”

The program for the day is as follows:

  • 12:00-12:40 jiu jitsu, +13 (Stephan Schack)
  • 12:45-13:25 Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, +16 (Camilla Hansen)
  • 13:30-14:10 Aikido, +18 (Carsten Lind Letort)
  • 14:15-14:55 Mother daughter training (5-15 år) (Iben Steensbæk Andersen)
  • 15:00-15:40 Self Defense for women, +15 (Anne-Marie Bunzel)

There will be coffee, snacks, and goodie bags so stop by, get inspired and join for an afternoon.
