Created by a top chef: Could this be Aalborg’s best sandwich?
Where can you actually get Aalborg’s best sandwich?
There are almost as many different types as there are terrible pickup lines on Gaden … so crowning a single winner in such a huge and diverse field is practically impossible.
But if we – right now – had to name the city’s best sandwich, there is no doubt in our minds that you should sink your teeth into a “TOTALT MÅWE GRISEPJOK”.
The name probably doesn’t ring much of a bell yet, but that’s because it is brand new on Aalborg’s sandwich scene.
The popular sandwich joint FrAAderen is currently running its “Sandwich of the Month” concept, where, for the rest of the year, some of the city’s best chefs are invited in to create their own take on the perfect sandwich.
In August, we had the pleasure of trying Søren Birch from Alimentum’s “Dill with It”, which was also an excellent sandwich.
Now we have reached September, and this time it is Restaurant Fauna’s very own Nicklas Thellufsen who has been given the chance to experiment in the FrAAderen kitchen.
By now, we have tasted plenty of sandwiches around the city – from the classic chicken and bacon with a generous hit of curry dressing to more innovative creations.
Lars from FrAAderen is also a big fan of it.

Best sandwich we have ever tasted
And we have no doubt:
This is the best sandwich we have ever tasted in Aalborg. Period.
If that isn’t enough to convince you to try it, just take a look at the list of ingredients:
- Crispy fried pork belly
- Fermented chilli sauce and Japanese mayo
- Pickled organic root vegetables
- Aromatic salad
- A crunchy mix of crushed peanuts, pork crackling and crispy onions
Every single detail has been carefully considered in this extravagant sandwich, and we honestly find it difficult to fault anything about it.
It has a completely perfect balance between salty, sour, bitter and sweet flavours – and, of course, plenty of umami.
It brings to mind the classic Vietnamese banh mi, but here an extra layer has been added, elevating it to a level we simply haven’t tasted before in Aalborg.

Only one bad thing to say
There is actually only one bad thing to say about this sandwich:
It is only available in September.
So the question is simply how many times we can justify ordering it during the month …
It costs DKK 99, can ONLY be purchased at FrAAderen’s location on Danmarksgade, and FrAAderen recommends pre-ordering.
