Kitten season is here: Local shelter is looking for foster families

by Nathalia Hentze Nielsen

When summer rolls around in Denmark it means the start of flower season, grill season, bathing season… and not least kitten season!

Unfortunately, the boom of cute little furballs also means a boom in abandonment cases, and this means that the country’s shelters become encumbered.

Especially July, August, and September is peak season for abandoned kittens, and that is why the local shelter Kattens Værn has a request for everyone who loves cats and wants to make a difference.

The shelter writes on Facebook that they need a lot of extra manpower to take care of the upcoming influx of cats and that you can make a difference by fostering.

Lots of love and attention

The primary task of the foster families is to shower the mother cats and kittens with love and attention so they become social and ready to be adopted when they return to the shelter.

That doesn’t sound like the worst job in the world, does it?

Are you interested in fostering there are a couple of requirements you need to meet:

  • You need to be able to transport the cats to and from the shelter
  • The cats may under no circumstances be let outside
  • If Kattens Værn asks you to return the cats, for instance, to be checked by the vet, you have to return them ASAP
  • If you already have animals in your home, they need to be vaccinated

Can you tick all the boxes and are you ready to make a difference to a lot of cute kittens, you should reach out to Kattens Værn via their email: aalborg@kattens-vaern.dk
