Love in the time of cold: Where to take your date in Christmassy Aalborg
Summer romances in Aalborg are beautiful – the days are long, the sunsets are beautiful and there is so much to do!
But once the cold weather makes its way to town and the sun is nowhere to be seen for months on end, the options for taking your date to a romantic spot are suddenly severely limited.
So here comes our very first (winter) date spots guide in Aalborg to melt your hearts and stay somewhat warm.
Drink at a coffee shop
You probably already thought of it, I know.
But coffee shops are the coziest places for winter dates.
Whether you decide to introduce your date to the chaotic coziness of Penny Lane, or if you two would rather calmly share a bagel at BACO, bonding over a cup of something hot can surely take the date to next level.
Our Danish site MigogAalborg even has a handy list of coffee shops which you can browse here.
A stroll through the Christmas market
Cozy lights, hot gløgg, and the smell of churros – the Christmas market in Aalborg seems like it was made for romance.
The Christmas market on Gammeltorv is the most beautiful after sunset – which happens pretty early this time of year.
All you need to do is to grab your date by the hand and explore the market’s small shops full of Christmas-themed decorations and try some of the Christmas treats together.
There’s nothing more romantic than a first kiss on a Ferris wheel surrounded by little Christmas trees.
Christmas in the ZOO
Have you been to Aalborg ZOO?
Even if the answer is ‘yes’, the ZOO is the place to be for your winter date.
In addition to animals, this time of year you can enjoy the ZOO decorated with lights and light installations.
What’s more, there are stands set up which offer lots of interesting snacks, drinks and potential Christmas (date) gifts.
And you can still pet some goats together!
Ice skating in the heart of Aalborg
If you’re a person who prefers to go on more active dates, make sure you try out the skating rink at C. W. Obels Plads next to Gammeltorv.
All you need to do is to bring your own skates or rent some on the spot and then skate around to your heart’s satisfaction.
Just be careful not to run into anyone around you, because this spot is a winter favorite.
Sauna
Let’s make it hot and steamy this winter!
Although many sauna places have been temporarily closed because of the energy crisis, some saunas in Haraldslund and Gigantium are still working.
If you and your date are in need of an especially relaxed day, make sure to attend saunagus – a sauna session with essential oils which help you de-stress even more.
