Luxury hotel of international standard: Ambitious plans for famous Aalborg hotel

The dream of an international-class luxury hotel in the heart of Aalborg has taken a big step forward.

A new local plan, now open for public consultation, paves the way for a massive expansion and renovation of the Radisson Blu Limfjord Hotel.

The project aims to elevate Aalborg to the very top of Danish tourist destinations.

According to the plans, the hotel will expand by over 5,000 square meters, adding more rooms, larger conference facilities, and spectacular new features such as a wellness area, an infinity pool with views of the Limfjord, green rooftop gardens, and a completely new foyer facing Ved Stranden.

When completed, the Radisson hotel will rise up to nine floors, becoming a striking architectural landmark in the city.

“Aalborg deserves a hotel that reflects the city’s growth and ambitions. We want to create a place that attracts visitors from outside while giving locals a new meeting point in the heart of the city. A hotel for everyone, where sustainability and quality go hand in hand,” says Thomas Byrdal, director of Radisson Blu Limfjord Hotel, to MigogAalborg.

Key item on the city council agenda

The ambitious hotel plans, which will also attract attention in Copenhagen and Aarhus, are set to be discussed at the Aalborg Municipality city council meeting tomorrow, Monday, October 27.

It is expected that the recommendation from the Department of Urban Planning and Landscape to move forward with the revised local plans will be approved.

These plans were first revealed back in 2022, so the hotel has waited patiently for progress. The hope now is to clear the way for the project to move forward.

A hotel for both tourists and locals

Although the project primarily aims to attract affluent new visitors to Aalborg, the hotel emphasizes that it will also be a place for locals.

The restaurant, bar, and wellness area will be open to everyone, offering everything from dinner with a view to top-class spa experiences.

“The hotel facilities will be open to all Aalborg residents, who will become part of the hotel’s DNA. You can visit the restaurant, enjoy a drink on the rooftop terrace, or indulge in our wellness area,” says Thomas Byrdal.

A green and sustainable landmark

Radisson Blu is known for its focus on environmental sustainability, and the Aalborg hotel will be no exception.

The goal is to create a green, modern, and energy-efficient hotel that matches Aalborg’s ongoing sustainable development, both in business and culture.

Destination Nord, which promotes tourism in North Jutland, continues to strongly support the ambitious plans. Aalborg has the potential to become one of Europe’s preferred destinations for business tourism.

The city benefits from a nearby airport, green values, and excellent meeting facilities—but lacks enough top-class hotels.
