Traffic around Aalborg Airport and Vadum is expected to be particularly heavy this weekend.

From Friday, September 11, to Sunday, September 13, Danish Air Show will take place at Aalborg Air Base, and especially on Sunday, a huge number of people are expected to head towards the area.

Organisers expect up to 125,000 visitors, which could result in long queues and significantly longer travel times.

The Danish Road Directorate is therefore warning visitors, air passengers and other motorists travelling through the area to allow extra time for their journey.

Highest risk of queues

Sunday is expected to be the busiest day.

According to the Danish Road Directorate, the greatest risk of congestion will be between 7am and 10am on Sunday morning and again between 3pm and 5pm.

Special traffic routes will be in place for the event, and anyone heading to Danish Air Show is being advised not to rely on their GPS.

Instead, motorists should follow the yellow signs marked “Airshow”.

The Danish Road Directorate also recommends setting off well in advance.

Those who are able to cycle may want to consider doing so, as bicycles are expected to be the fastest way to get to and from the area.

Flying from Aalborg Airport? Leave extra early

It is not only the thousands of visitors heading to the air show who could be affected.

Anyone flying from Aalborg Airport this weekend – especially on Sunday – should expect the journey to the airport to take longer than usual.

The Danish Road Directorate is urging passengers to allow plenty of extra time and to keep an eye on updates from Aalborg Airport.

Bus passengers may also be affected, as several routes in the area will be diverted because of the event.

Check traffic before you leave

Anyone travelling through the area is advised to check the latest traffic conditions before setting off and to stay updated during the journey.

The Danish Road Directorate recommends using Trafikinfo.dk and P4 Trafik for live traffic information.

Even if you are not attending Danish Air Show, it may therefore be worth planning your Sunday journey carefully if your route takes you past Aalborg Airport or Vadum.

With up to 125,000 visitors expected at Aalborg Air Base, it could become an exceptionally busy day on the roads in North Jutland.
