Christmas is coming: Malte Ebert lights this year’s Christmas lights at Musikkens Hus

For the second year in a row, Musikkens Hus is inviting the entire city to a heartwarming Christmas lights ceremony.

The building’s façade will be illuminated when Malte Ebert presses the button, and before that, he will perform a free mini-concert at Musikkens Plads.

Ahead of the concert, Musikkens Hus — in collaboration with Mødrehjælpen Aalborg — once again invites families in vulnerable situations to a private Christmas event with cozy activities, treats, and gifts.

The event takes place on Sunday, November 9, made possible with generous support from the Spar Nord Foundation.

Support for Mødrehjælpen

One of Malte Ebert’s biggest hits is the title song from DR’s Christmas calendar The Secret of the Christmas Heart, and a Christmas heart will be sold to benefit Mødrehjælpen Aalborg.

The heart will be available not just on the day itself but all the way until Christmas, with all proceeds going directly to Mødrehjælpen’s work.

“The generous donation we received from the Spar Nord Foundation means that we can give.

We can support Mødrehjælpen’s work, provide a special Christmas experience for several vulnerable families in a safe setting, and give the entire city a memorable holiday experience with lights, a concert, and carol singing.

It’s a huge privilege, and I’m really looking forward to Sunday, November 9,” says Rikke Mølgaard, director of Musikkens Hus.

Musikkens Hus hopes that many people from North Jutland will again find their way to the harbor front, where the event takes place. Last year, the carol singing and concert were held inside the foyer, but space was limited, so this year everything moves outdoors — weather permitting — to create the perfect festive setting.

Carol singing with the junior choir

In addition to Malte Ebert’s mini-concert, the afternoon will feature carol singing with Budolfi Church’s Junior Choir, led by Julie Harries Justesen.

At the piano is Ole Izard Høyer, and song sheets will be provided so everyone can join in.

“Last year marked the start of a new tradition, and I was indescribably happy to see so many people from North Jutland come out and sing Christmas in.

We showed that Musikkens Hus is open to all — a gathering place full of enriching experiences. I am both happy and proud that this year we can present Malte Ebert, light even more Christmas lights, and celebrate the season with so many people,” says Rikke Mølgaard.

“The lighting ceremony marks the start of a special time worth gathering for, associated with joy and coziness for many families.

Unfortunately, for some families, Christmas also brings financial worries and loneliness.

With the event at Musikkens Hus, we look forward to the city coming together again for a free experience that spreads warmth and joy, while also reaching out to families in need of a bright spot,” says Bo Uggerhøj, director of the Spar Nord Foundation.

A special gift

Part of the Spar Nord Foundation’s donation is reserved for a select group of people, which is why the day is divided into two parts.

The first part is a “closed” event for families with children who are currently facing challenges and may need a break from a difficult everyday life. They are invited to a Christmas celebration with æbleskiver (Danish pancakes) and gifts — and, of course, to the event with Malte Ebert.

Musikkens Hus again collaborates with Mødrehjælpen Aalborg to invite families in genuine need. Mødrehjælpen is specifically selected in cooperation with the Spar Nord Foundation.

Mødrehjælpen Aalborg can also look forward to receiving a Christmas gift in January, when Musikkens Hus calculates the sales of a special Christmas heart — chosen from the collection of paper cuttings at the Museum of Paper Art in Blokhus.

The heart is sold for DKK 99, and all proceeds go directly to Mødrehjælpen Aalborg. Designed by Brit Vejle, the Christmas heart is available at the box office.
