Many roads will be closed: 20.000 people in Aalborg got a special e-mail

by Emil Kjær Jørgensen

When Aalborg once again hosts DM Week this year, 35 different sports and a range of experiences for both athletes and spectators are on the program.

One of the major events is the Danish Road Cycling Championships, taking place on the roads in Aalborg Municipality on Friday, June 27 and Sunday, June 29. And this will affect traffic.

Aalborg Municipality has sent notices to 20,000 residents who will be particularly impacted.

“We hope for understanding regarding the traffic changes during such a major sporting event, so we can all enjoy a great experience together when some of the world’s best cyclists come to Aalborg. We will do our best to help you get through the days as smoothly as possible and with the necessary information,” writes the municipality.

See here where and when the roads will be closed:

Time Trial – June 27

Friday, June 27 is the time trial event on the roads.

The route will be closed along the entire race course. Traffic officials, flag marshals, the Home Guard, and North Jutland Police will be present along and on the route to help instruct traffic and ensure flow as smoothly as possible despite road closures.

Road Race – June 29

Sunday, June 29 is the road race event.

Road closure times:

• Saturday, June 28 at 21:00 to Sunday, June 29 at 21:00:
Limfjordsbroen will be completely closed to cyclists and motorists due to the setup of the start/finish area. Limfjordsbroen will remain open to pedestrians during this time.

The road race will end with several laps on an 8 km circuit in Nørresundby and Aalborg across the Limfjordsbroen. The circuit will be closed to all traffic.

Permission to close roads and establish barriers has been granted by North Jutland Police and Aalborg Municipality’s Road Authority. The City and Landscape Committee has also approved the event.

The Danish Sports Federation, the Danish Cycling Union, Aalborg Cykle-Ring, and Aalborg Municipality are organizing the Danish Road Cycling Championships as part of DM Week.

Emergency Situations

If an emergency occurs requiring an ambulance or other emergency vehicle to access an address behind the barriers, the police and race organizers will ensure they can get through.

In absolutely urgent and acute cases, it is possible to call the race control center to request a police motorcycle/Race Marshal to escort a vehicle in or out of the area. The phone number is 52 19 27 43 on race day.
