A Must-See: All of Aalborg transforms into Christmas magic on this weekend
You might as well mark the date now — because it’s going to be a weekend filled with pure Christmas magic in the heart of Aalborg that few will want to miss.
If you love Christmas even just a little bit, this is the place to be.
As MigogAalborg recently reported, the grand Christmas Market at Gammeltorv in central Aalborg opens on Friday, November 14.
That Friday marks the start of a truly magical Christmas weekend in Aalborg.
Santa Claus is Coming to Town
The very next day, Saturday, November 15, the city will be bursting with Christmas spirit.
At 10:00 AM, Santa Claus will arrive, as tradition dictates, at Honnørkajen by the waterfront.
Aalborg City has not yet released more details, but it will likely follow tradition — Santa usually arrives with his entire crew of elves by ship (naturally from Greenland) to greet all the children.
There’s usually festive music from Aalborg Garden as well.
Afterward, Santa typically parades through the city with Aalborg’s mayor, Lasse Frimand Jensen, even though the municipal election is just a few days away.
The Lighting of the Christmas Tree
At 2:00 PM, the grand Christmas tree at Gabels Torv will be lit.
Join Santa as he switches on the lights of the beautiful tree from Fredrikstad — for the 63rd year in a row, marking the official start of Christmas in Aalborg.
Look forward to a cozy afternoon with Christmas carols, dancing around the tree, and festive joy for the whole family.
After the lighting ceremony, everyone is invited for gløgg and æbleskiver at Aalborg City Hall.
Come and feel the magic as the Christmas lights once again fill the heart of the city with warmth and joy.
Denmark’s Largest Cake Festival
And if you want to make your weekend even sweeter, MigogAalborg is also hosting Denmark’s biggest cake festival that same weekend — Saturday, November 15, and Sunday, November 16.
There are still tickets available for this massive celebration of cake — a perfect way to top off an already magical Christmas weekend.
