Another one in Aalborg: Famous local figure behind new 7-Eleven opening
Today, 7-Eleven opened a new hospital store at Aalborg University Hospital in Hospitalsbyen in Gistrup – the brand-new super hospital.
The store is centrally located in the large foyer and has a strong focus on food and beverages, as it serves as a meeting point for patients, staff and relatives.
The shelves also stock patient gifts, snacks, weekly magazines and other essentials, while tobacco products and alcohol are not part of the assortment.
Local and experienced franchisee behind the store
Behind the new store is the experienced local franchisee Kai Mandrup, who already operates the 7-Eleven stores at Sygehus Syd and in Reberbansgade.
Kai has worked in the retail trade since he was just 13 years old and is now opening his third store in Aalborg.
“I have really been looking forward to opening the store here in Hospitalsbyen. I was born in Aalborg myself and live here today with my family, so it is special to be part of the city’s new hospital.

My wife Susie will be the store manager, and together with our team we are looking forward to getting properly started,” says Kai Mandrup, franchisee of the store at Aalborg University Hospital in Hospitalsbyen.
Kai and Susie Mandrup have worked together for 15 years. Until now, Susie has been store manager at the 7-Eleven store at Sygehus Syd, but she is now stepping into the role as store manager at the new super hospital. With their experience, the couple is well acquainted with the specific demands of running a store in a hospital setting.
“As a hospital store, we have a practical function where patients, relatives and hospital staff can quickly find what they need, but sometimes we also serve as a small break from the hospital corridors.
This places special demands on customer service, which is especially important in a hospital – whether it’s with a friendly smile, a short conversation, or by giving customers a moment to themselves,” says Susie Mandrup, store manager at Aalborg University Hospital in Hospitalsbyen.
7-Eleven’s 10th hospital store in Denmark
With the store at Aalborg University Hospital, 7-Eleven is now present at 10 hospitals across Denmark.
“We are seeing a growing demand for our stores at hospitals, where our broad assortment – especially our selection of fresh food – is highly appreciated.
Operating a store in a hospital differs in several ways from a regular city store. The assortment, service and approach to customers must be adapted to the special needs of patients, relatives and staff, and the store becomes a natural part of everyday life at the hospital.
That is why we are pleased that Kai and Susie are now bringing their many years of experience to Aalborg University Hospital in Hospitalsbyen,” says Jesper Østergaard, CEO of 7-Eleven Denmark.
The store at Aalborg University Hospital in Gistrup is open Monday to Thursday from 6:00 am to 11:00 pm, and Friday to Sunday from 6:00 am to 10:00 pm.
In addition to the staffed store, a self-service vending unit with a selection of 7-Eleven products has been installed and is accessible around the clock.
