Right by the fjord: We’ve tested the new brunch at Grøn Bakery & Café

Aalborg is bursting with brunch options, and there are almost no limits to the types of brunch you can find in the city.

Whether you prefer a classic brunch or something a bit more out of the ordinary, there’s always something for every taste in Aalborg. And now, another brunch contender has joined the scene.

Back in March, Aalborg Vestby welcomed a brand new bakery in the former premises of the Pancake House. Grøn Bakery & Café has since taken the city by storm with their delicious pastries and highly innovative cakes.

And now, they’ve added brunch to the menu too.

The brunch at Grøn Bakery & Café is quite simple and very classic, but also exceptionally well-executed for 179 DKK.
It’s served every day of the week from 9 AM to 1 PM, and below you can read exactly what you get when you order their brunch.

A classic brunch

Of course, we stopped by the café ourselves to try out the lovely brunch plate, which we naturally enjoyed outside in the sun on their cozy terrace.

There’s no fuss with this brunch plate. Everything described on the menu is exactly what you get. And we appreciate that you can instantly recognize everything on your plate when you order brunch.

The scrambled eggs were soft and fluffy, and the amount of crispy bacon and chorizo brunch sausage was just right.

The skyr added a nice fresh touch with great berry flavor and crunch from the gluten-free granola.

We also appreciated being able to choose between homemade salmon rillettes or homemade chicken salad. We opted for one of each, and both were absolutely delicious—especially when stuffed into the little crispy croissant that comes with it. Yum!

We also got two different kinds of insanely tasty cheeses. One was soft and mild in flavor. The other was firmer and stronger, which created a good flavor balance. The accompanying compote paired nicely with both.

The “sweet treat” was a crispy chocolate cookie. It was very good, but next time we’re hoping for something more pastry-like to match a breakfast vibe. A cinnamon bun or a swirl would’ve been perfect.

In addition, you get two slices of white bread, two slices of rye bread, and a dollop of whipped butter with the brunch. Also approved!

And finally, a coffee or juice of your choice is included in the price of 179 DKK. Lovely.

What do we think?

All in all, a solid round of brunch, with all the elements a brunch-lover could wish for present on the plate.

The fact that it can be enjoyed on their lovely terrace in the sun is also perfect. Sure, it’s cozy to sit in the city center and enjoy a nice brunch on a street corner, but there’s a special vibe in Vestbyen, especially down by the Marina.

There’s a fresh breeze from the fjord and just a bit of extra wind in your hair out there—in the best possible way. Absolutely worth a visit!

Grøn Bakery & Café is open every day of the week: Monday to Friday from 6:00 AM – 5:00 PM and Saturday–Sunday from 7:00 AM – 5:00 PM.
