Inspired by superheroes: New coffee bar opens in the city center

The-Daily-Brew-4-1200x720-1-1024x614

“The city is safe once again.”

That’s the message printed on the menu at Aalborg’s new coffee bar, The Daily Brew, which opened today in the basement of the Main Library on Nørregade.

The first hours with the new coffee bar have passed – and it’s already clear that the people of Aalborg have welcomed it warmly.

The premises have previously hosted various café concepts, but without much success.

So far, however, it seems that the duo Henrik Bruse and Majken Green may have cracked the code for a concept that can actually survive in this location.

Quality and coziness

The menu is designed like a comic book from the 1960s, complete with speech bubbles and sharp punchlines.

Under the headings Buns, Sweet, and Other Goodies, you’ll find exactly what you need – nothing more, nothing less.

The sourdough buns are named BMS, BMO, BMC, and BMX, a little play on abbreviations that regulars at the neighboring shop Majken’s Hylde might recognize.

It’s simple yet delicious, and it quickly becomes clear that the ambition is not to overwhelm anyone, but instead to create a coffee bar where quality and coziness go hand in hand.

Cheap coffee – and plenty of life

The prices are also kept down to earth: A cappuccino for 25 kroner, a whole pot of coffee for 50.

And of course, guests are allowed to bring both coffee and baked goods with them throughout the library – into the reading room, into the children’s section, or up to the quiet corners on the top floors.

This makes The Daily Brew an obvious choice for students, who can quickly grab a pot to share at the table, but also for parents who want to combine a coffee break with a visit to the children’s area – exactly as Majken and Henrik envision it.

In addition, every single day the first 10 guests get free coffee, tracked on a magnetic board with … superhero magnets.

Superheroes and atmosphere

The interior is also kept simple.

Green nature paintings on the walls and clocks showing the world’s time zones bring the same sense of calm found in the Main Library – while the small superhero touches – on the menu, on the magnets, on the walls – remind you that there’s also room for play.

The atmosphere is somewhat reminiscent of well-known concepts abroad, where it’s completely normal for cafés to be integrated into bookstores or cultural centers.

Calm, relaxed, and with a natural synergy between books, coffee, and conversation.

To make everything even more “down to earth,” a small syrup bar has been set up where guests can mix their coffee exactly how they like it – at no extra cost.

A place you’ll want to return to

The Daily Brew doesn’t appear to be aiming for grandeur in the city center – and according to the new duo, that’s not the point.

On the contrary, it’s a small coffee bar with space to breathe, meet, or grab something to go.

On opening day, there was already a line at the door, and with its combination of low prices, good coffee, and homemade sourdough buns, it seems like the kind of place that could quickly become part of the city’s daily rhythm.

So perhaps Aalborg really has become a little safer now – at least for everyone who loves coffee, calm, and good sourdough.

The café opens at 9 o’clock, and as mentioned, you can get a free cup of coffee if you’re among the first 10 guests.

For now, opening hours are Tuesday–Saturday, from 9 AM to 5 PM.
