New marina opens: Grand opening with music, cake and family fun
Soon, it will become significantly more attractive to be both a sailor — and a city resident — on the Solsiden waterfront in Nørresundby.
A brand-new marina is currently taking shape between the bridges, where the existing small boat harbor is being transformed into a modern maritime urban space designed to strengthen sailing life while creating more activity along the Limfjord.
Now the project has progressed far enough for organizers to invite the public to a major opening celebration.
The grand opening party will take place on Saturday, May 30, when Solsidens Udviklings Alliance (SUA) hosts the official inauguration event.
“With the marina, we are not only creating new boat spaces — we are creating a new shared meeting place by the fjord.
The project connects sailing life, city life, and community spirit, and it will become an important first step in the development of ‘Den Blå Kant’ on Solsiden,” says Per Sahlertz, chairman of Nørresundby Sailing Club, in a press release.

Huge Opening Celebration Ahead
One of the most significant additions is a brand-new 150-metre floating dock, creating space for much larger boats.
“The new marina will become much more than just a facility for sailors.
The project marks the first concrete step in a broader alliance-based urban development along the Limfjord, where maritime culture, city life, community, and recreational experiences are brought together under the vision: from fjord to community,” says Bjarne Agger Sidelmann, strategic leader and urban development coordinator for SUA.
The opening celebration will feature a special visit from the mayor, who will both give a speech and officially cut the ribbon before a full day of activities begins.
Guests can look forward to bouncy castles for children, free coffee, juice, and cake for the first 500 visitors, live music, RIB boat rides, and the opportunity to buy wine, beer, burgers, hot dogs, and more — before the day concludes with a communal sunset singalong around 7:40 PM.
The marina officially opens on Saturday, May 30, and has been developed through a collaboration between Nørresundby Sailing Club, ANF, Aalborg Municipality, the AN-TV Foundation, and SUA.
The New Marina
- The harbor has been moved 16 metres further out into the fjord.
- A new 5-metre-wide floating dock with integrated wave protection has been constructed.
- The dock structure creates recreational spaces with benches and waterfront relaxation areas.
- The marina will have capacity for larger boats and visiting sailors.
- The outer side of the dock can now accommodate larger vessels — something previously not possible.
- New mooring facilities and water depths of at least 5 metres make the marina suitable for events such as TSR / Tall Ships Races and regattas.
- An additional western entrance for larger boats is being established, while the existing eastern entrance will remain.
- The floating dock has been built with an expected minimum lifespan of 50 years.
