Second-hand chain expands: New store coming to Aalborg

Do You Love Thrift Stores?

Then we have good news.

The opportunities to discover second-hand treasures in Aalborg are about to get even better.

This autumn, waste management company Nordværk, in partnership with Aalborg Municipality, will open a brand-new 374-square-metre second-hand store at Lundeborgvej 21 in Aalborg East.

The store’s inventory will come directly from the municipality’s recycling centres, where large quantities of household goods, toys, clothing, and other reusable items are handed in every day. These items will now be given a second chance through resale in the new shop.

“At Nordværk, we are constantly working to give as many reusable items as possible a new life. For quite some time, it has been a shared ambition to establish a new second-hand store in collaboration with Aalborg Municipality.

We are therefore delighted that we will be opening the store on Lundeborgvej this autumn, making it even easier for residents to incorporate reuse into their everyday lives,” says Julie Ebak, Head of Nordværk’s Reuse Division.

“With this second-hand store, even more reusable items will be given a new life. It is a tangible example of how the visions of a circular economy and direct reuse can become reality in everyday life,” says Jan Nymark Rose Thaysen, Councillor for Climate, Culture and Health at Aalborg Municipality.

Charitable organisations remain first in line

Today, charitable organisations throughout Aalborg Municipality are entitled to collect reusable items from the area’s recycling centres. That arrangement will remain unchanged when the new store opens.

“Charitable organisations such as the Danish Red Cross second-hand shops, Danmission, and others will continue to have first choice of the items delivered to the recycling centres. The items that charitable organisations do not take will then be sold in the second-hand store,” explains Trine Søndergaard from Aalborg Municipality.

Julie Ebak adds:

“Nordværk’s second-hand store is not intended to compete with existing thrift stores, but rather to complement them. The primary purpose is to ensure that as much of the reusable material we receive at our recycling centres as possible finds a new life.”

More than just a thrift store

The new store in Aalborg East will become part of the future North Jutland Resource Park, which is set to be developed over the coming years.

The facility is intended to be more than a traditional second-hand shop. A variety of activities will also take place there, including educational initiatives that give visitors insight into the journey of reusable items.

The store will also serve as a gathering place for residents, partners, and charitable organisations.

Visitors will additionally be able to follow the progress of the new recycling centre that will be established as part of the resource park development.

North Jutland Resource Park

Nordværk plans to develop a 45,000-square-metre resource park adjacent to its existing facilities in Aalborg East.

The project will place an even greater emphasis on reuse and sustainable solutions.

The site will include:

• A large, future-proof recycling centre
• The new second-hand store
• A modern logistics and operations centre for Nordværk’s waste collection vehicles and other fleet operations
• A new administrative headquarters for Nordværk employees
• Expanded educational activities, including guided tours and events focused on reuse and sustainability

The project is designed to strengthen circular economy initiatives in North Jutland while making reuse more accessible and visible to the public.
