New sun route: Direct flight from Aalborg Airport takes off

For the first time ever: Fully booked jumbo jet departs directly from Aalborg to sunny paradise
Today, a new charter destination was celebrated at Aalborg Airport as the first-ever direct flight to Cape Verde took off with Spies.
Passengers heading to the island of Sal were treated to coffee and cake at the gate before boarding SunClass Airlines’ largest aircraft, an Airbus A330-900neo, which was fully booked with eager holidaymakers.
“This is a big day for Aalborg Airport and for travellers in North Jutland. We know there is strong demand for direct flights to sunny destinations, and it is therefore especially exciting that, together with Spies, we can now offer an exotic destination like Cape Verde directly from Aalborg,” says airport director Niels Hemmingsen in a press release.
To mark the new charter route—launched by Spies in connection with its 70th anniversary—the traditional ribbon was cut at the gate.
The celebration concluded in style with a water salute just before the large Airbus took off from Aalborg.
Sun, beaches, and relaxation—directly from Aalborg
Cape Verde is located off the west coast of Africa and is known for its wide sandy beaches, turquoise waters, stable warm climate, and relaxed atmosphere.
With around 350 days of sunshine a year and temperatures of about 26°C in April, the archipelago has become a popular destination for Danes seeking sun and tranquillity in exotic surroundings.
“It is the first time ever that you can fly directly from Aalborg to Cape Verde with Spies—and even on the large Airbus A330 from SunClass, which we don’t often see at Aalborg Airport.
Cape Verde is a destination that offers something truly special. It’s associated with guaranteed sunshine, relaxation, and a holiday experience out of the ordinary.
That’s why we’ve seen enormous interest in the destination—even among the airport’s own staff. It’s simply a unique destination, and we hope it can become a permanent part of our charter programme,” Niels Hemmingsen concludes.
