Limited Edition: Guf and Kugler launch special New Year’s ice cream

by Stine Kjølby Christensen

For several years, the award-winning ice cream shop “Guf & Kugler” has been treating the people of Aalborg to a very special Christmas ice cream.

Although their display is already full this holiday season, one flavor still stands out: Cherry Christmas.

“Cherry Christmas came about because I don’t like risalamande,” admits Jeppe Korsholm Mikkelsen, the owner of the ice cream shops in both Aalborg and Nibe.

The now-famous ice cream consists of hand-stirred cream ice cream with vanilla, Amarena cherries, white Callebaut chocolate, and almond slivers – and if you buy it to-go, there’s naturally a hidden almond in the cup as well.

Cherry Christmas has thus become many (picky?) people’s answer to the classic Christmas dessert, and if you’ve tried it, you know it’s truly something special.

Marzipan cake ice cream

Now Guf & Kugler have expanded their lineup again, this time with a flavor celebrating another holiday.

“We’ve added a New Year’s ice cream to the menu, which we hope people will enjoy when the clock strikes midnight,” says Jeppe.

“Or, of course, at any other time,” he adds with a laugh.

The New Year’s ice cream, creatively named NYTÅRS IS, is a full-blown chocolate ice cream with a chocolate swirl made from Callebaut, homemade raspberry coulis, and, of course, homemade marzipan crumble.

MigogAalborg has, of course, tried both – and didn’t hesitate to take one of each home to the freezer.

They deserve it – especially since they probably aren’t meant for a spot under the Christmas tree.

Both Cherry Christmas and NYTÅRS IS come in 500 ml tubs and cost 79 DKK each.

If you live outside Aalborg and want to avoid a trip into the city before Christmas, Isfatter will also be available at Mormorstuen in Nibe for the next two Sundays, where you can pick up both ice creams.

Add a little sparkle – with ice cream

While the New Year’s ice cream is intended for the whole family, regardless of taste, there’s an even more festive alternative.

The unforgettable Cava sorbet is also back in the display.

And this one can easily replace champagne – so don’t think it’s an alcohol-free alternative.

There’s plenty of alcohol in it.

“You just have to be aware that it melts very quickly because it contains so much alcohol,” says Jeppe.

He estimates that two scoops of Cava sorbet are roughly equivalent to a glass of good champagne.

You can visit Guf & Kugler on Bispensgade until December 21.
