Plans confirmed: International restaurant chain to replace Jensen’s Bøfhus

by Stine Kjølby Christensen

If you’re one of those who thought that Jensen’s Bøfhus was a thing of the past in Aalborg, you’re far from alone.

But you’re also mistaken.

Jensen’s Bøfhus in both the city center and City Syd are open – and may actually be performing better than they have in a long time.

This is confirmed by restaurant manager Kaj Pedersen, who has been the restaurant manager on Østerågade for the past three years.

“There are new people who have taken over now and are doing everything they can to create a profitable business for Jensen’s up until we close down when renovations begin,” he explains.

But there’s still a long way to go before the last lunch steak is served.

In fact, there are plans to keep the restaurants open until autumn, when a major renovation will begin and an entirely new concept can move in.

From steaks to pizza and pasta

When Jensen’s Bøfhus on Østerågade closes, it won’t be the end of the premises. Quite the opposite.

They will become the setting for a completely new concept, backed by the people behind Bones.

The new concept will be an Italian restaurant focusing on pizza and pasta – something that, according to Kaj Pedersen, is new to Denmark but already a major success abroad.

“Aalborg and Odense will be the first cities to get the restaurants, and the goal is to create a chain that can gain momentum in Denmark.

It will be a franchise concept, and we’re really looking forward to showing what we’ve been working on,” he explains.

The plan is for the restaurant on Østerågade to close in the autumn of 2026 to undergo a major renovation.

When the doors reopen, it will be as a modern Italian restaurant aiming to set new standards for dining experiences in the city.

High ambitions for the new concept

The new concept is not just a random idea.

Bones, which is behind the transformation, already has extensive experience running successful restaurants, and the ambitions are high.

“We see it as an exciting journey where we’re starting something completely new. It gives motivation and spark that we’ve been missing,” says Kaj Pedersen.

But even though the future features Italian dishes, Jensen’s Bøfhus is still open – and may be functioning better than it has in a long time.

Jensen’s Bøfhus will rediscover itself

Even though Jensen’s Bøfhus is facing major change, the current focus is on delivering classic Jensen’s dishes at good prices.

The menu has been stripped down to the essentials, with a focus on key products like meat, sauce, and the salad bar – the things guests know and love.

“We’re going back to our core values with big steaks at small prices.

At the same time, we’ve chosen to rethink the takeaway side, which previously struggled.

We’re soon launching a new setup with family roast dinners and a more streamlined selection,” Kaj Pedersen explains.

Takeaway will reopen later in February, and the goal is to win back the affection of Danish guests who may have lost interest in recent years.

One last chance for steaks and soft ice cream

Until autumn, the full focus is on delivering the best possible experience for guests.

Jensen’s Bøfhus is offering, among other things, children’s menus for just 29 DKK in weeks 7 and 8 – including soft ice cream.

The salad bar has also been upgraded and now resembles Bones’ more closely – with plenty of new items.

So even though Jensen’s Bøfhus is heading toward a conclusion, there’s no doubt that the people behind it want the restaurant – which has been located in the premises since 2013 – to finish on a high note.

If you want one last bite of the good old Jensen’s, there’s still plenty of time.
